Welcome to the Logikal Career Connection Your distribution number is: LS1 Your distribution version is: DP3 Your list box version is: DP2 These values need to be entered in your User Settings. Please print this file so you have it on hand. These values are CASE SENSITIVE. Be sure to copy all .DLL files to your WINDOWS directory so they can be found during execution. The main HOST phone number is (708)-420-0424. Other host numbers will be added to this file as they are created. The goal is to establish one node in each area code. The above number serves both the (312) and (708) area codes. This software assumes you know enough about Windows to navigate through a Windows based application. You must be familiar enough with Windows to know how to run an executable file from the FILE MANAGER portion of Windows. Windows has on-line help which will instruct you on how to do this. MODEM MUST BE'S: Your modem MUST be Hayes compatible and respond to the HAYES command set. Your modem MUST be set such that a DTR on->off off->on cycle resets it to factory default settings. Your modem MUST return the true state of Carrier Detect. You MUST have a true modem cable with ALL 25 pins wired straight through for full modem controll. If you are using one of those 4 wire "cheapy" modem cables you will have little success with this software. HOW TO START: The main user menu is USM.EXE. You may run this from the Windows file manager. COMMON PROBLEMS: * Things seem to sporadically crash without rhyme or reason. - Most likely you ran the MEMAKER option of DOS 6.0 and are missing X=B000-B7FF on your EMM386.SYS line. Some of this software executes under DOS. When running a DOS app, the text mode region of the video card gets activated. If Windows is currently attempting to use this memory also your system will crash. * My machine keeps coming up with EMM exception 06 errors. - You are running MS DOS 6.0 or Windows 3.1 on an old BIOS. If you have an AMI BIOS we got our upgrade from (800)-766-2467. The EMM specification has changed over the years and many BIOS chips manufactured prior to 1992 cannot handle the new releases of DOS and Windows. * My modem doesn't seem to respond to all commands. * My modem lights flash but it doesn't dial. - Two problems can cause this. First is you are missing 2 lines in your SYSTEM.INI file for Windows. This file is in the WINDOWS directory and usually on drive C. The lines you are probably missing are: Com1AutoAssign=2 Com2AutoAssign=2 These lines go under the [386Enh] block. Somehow these swat Windows in the head so it can communicate properly with DOS com1 or COM2. The other problem which can cause this is your modem is not set to recognize DTR. In order for this software to work you must configure your modem so that a DTR on->off off->on cycle causes a hardware reset to factory defaults. Most modems get setup this way from the factory. Check the DIP switches on your modem and verify the settings.
