************* SUPRA CORPORATION OPENS VANCOUVER OFFICE ******************** ALBANY, OR, FEBRUARY 16, 1993 - In a move reflecting Supra Corporation's fast paced growth and plans for future expansion, the company announced this week the opening of a new facility in Vancouver, Washington. Supra, an Albany-based manufacturer of computer peripheral products, will initially move their product distribution and marketing departments to the new offices - hoping to free up space in their two-year-old Albany facility for other operations. "Supra's growth over the past two years far exceeded original expectations," said John Wiley, president of Supra. "We are now doing over twice the business that we designed our building to handle. Our first thought was to add an expansion locally, but when we took a step back and looked at our long-range plans, the expansion to the Portland metro area made strategic sense. The site in Vancouver was picked due to proximity to the Portland Airport and UPS shipping hubs, lower rent costs, and favorable tax rates. We expect to offer our customers better service and faster deliveries - which can make the difference in our competitive business." The Vancouver office will initially house finished products inventory, shipping, and marketing functions. Supra has transferred 4 employees to begin operations and anticipates employing approximately 20 people by year-end. These new employees will work in many aspects of the company's business including engineering and sales. "One of our biggest obstacles to growth has been finding the right employees for key jobs. We have several people commuting from Portland every day and have hired several more from around the country. The new operation will give us the flexibility to pick from the large high-tech labor pool in Portland , and will also ease the transition on employees coming from other large urban areas. We can then focus our efforts on our core business and not on attracting the right employees." The corporate headquarters will remain in Albany where more than 100 people are currently employed. The Albany office will continue to be the primary location for manufacturing, sales, support, and administration. "We expect to grow certain aspects of our business in Albany now that we have freed up the space", Wiley said. "We remain committed to the area and will continue to be an active corporate citizen in the community." Supra also has a sales and distribution office in Cologne, Germany and plans a procurement and production operation to open soon in Hong Kong. Supra Corporation has been providing personal computer users with high-quality, low-cost peripherals since 1985. The SupraFAXModem V.32bis has set a price-performance standard for high-speed modems. Since the original SupraModem 2400 was introduced in 1987, SupraModems have been popular among consumers for excellent value in a reliable modem, and have been recommended by a variety of sources, from respected PC Magazine and MacUser columnist John C. Dvorak to the Boston Computer Society.
