Version Number Revolutionist's Club We thank you for taking a few moments of your time to read this message that the author of this software has made accessable to you to assist in enlightening your mind. We would like to bring to your attention the ever important movement that is supported by our Not-Well known organization. We are a small faction known as the V.N.R.C. or (Version Number Revolutionist's Club.) The name quite clearly explains our purpose, but We will attempt to help you in understanding our goal. Our goal is to help control the methods that all software authors determine the version numbers that are released with all the software packages they have created for our use. The following is a list of the different ways you as a computer programer can help our cause. Please choose one of these methods for determining your software version numbers. 1) Start all version numbers at 1,000,000 and count down. 2) Express all version numbers in the form of an unformated real number. 3) Include two different version numbers in each program, allowing each user to choose which one he would like to use. 4) Include in your programs a Random Number Generation procedure that will be called every time your version number is displayed thus changing the number for every call to the program. 5) Express all version numbers in the form of a differential Equation that must be solved in order to determine the version number. 6) Simply say 'This version is newer than the last version I released.' 7) Display date instead of version number. 8) Replace version number with number of cups of coffee you drank while writting the program. 9) Simply use the word 'Guess!' 10) Combine any of the above choices. But please be sure they are used in a manner that allows for simple decifering. We would like to greatly thank you for your assistance in this matter. With out your help, our organization will not be able to grow and version numbers will continue to make absolutly no sense at all. If you would like to become an official member of the V.N.R.C please simply include this text file with any program that you, as an author, release to the general public, unedited. Then us mail to let us know what program it is being released with and what it's version number is.
