SCREEN DOOR By Garry W. Elmer K-9 BBS, Mystic, CT This program allows the BBS to call you back and establish a connection verifying that the number you say you are calling from, is really where you are calling from, and prevents duplicate accounts from being opened. The program will present you with a 4 character "password" in the opening screen. When the program calls you back it will ask for these 4 characters and upon entry, your access will be upgraded and you will have full use of the board. LD (Long Distance) Callers - Though I do not have the door configured to allow toll call LD callback, if you are in a PC Pursuitable area, it will call you back (between the hours of 1815 and 0645 weekdays, and 24 hrs/day on Saturday and Sunday. If you are not sure if you are in a PC Pursuitable area, try the door and it will tell you. PC PURSUIT VALIDATION - Since the PC Pursuit phone service has a 90 second "grace" connection period, the door is set to terminate the call just prior to the end of this period. (Thank you SPRINT!) After all the PC Pursuit "overhead", you should have about 30 seconds to answer and enter the password. You must have your modem answer quickly and you must enter the password quickly. After validation, the door will terminate the call. START - To start the callback sequence, select the number that your modem is connected to and the program will start the callback. Approximately 30-45 seconds later, the BBS will call the number you selected. YOU MUST BE READY! Depending what modem, software and computer you have will dictate what you do next. The BBS will call your computer. You will either get RING on your screen, hear the ring from your modem, or the modem will answer automatically depending on how your system is set up. Once you know the BBS is calling, whatever your system requires you do to answer incoming calls must be done. "ATA" is usually the modem command entered from the terminal mode to tell the modem to answer the phone, or "ATS0=1" typed immediately after the computer hangs up or "S0=1" added to the modem initialization string will cause the modem to answer automatically. This could vary depending on your system. DO NOT use your COM program's "mini BBS" type mode if it has one. Once your modem has established a connection, you'll get a prompt PASSWORD? You'll get 3 tries at giving back the 4 character password. If you are unsure as to how to make your computer answer, log off and study your documentation. You can use this door to validate yourself whenever you choose to log on again.
