JPG Specifications Inserter VERSION 1.0 for Renegade BBS 1. Disclaimer Let me tell you this first: I wrote this particular utility for per- sonal use. It works just fine for me. I hope you understand that I can't be held responsible in any way for anything that may happen. Use it at your own risk. 2. Introduction Why a JPG Specifications Inserter for Renegade BBS you may think. Because Renegade BBS software has build in a possibility to insert GIF Specifications (that is height, width and # color information) into a GIF-file's description, and I found that more and more JPG files are used, I thought it was time to write a JPG Specs inserter. 3. What does it do As you may know, the GIF Specifications are inserted as follows: GARFIELD.GIF (407x443,256c) Accordingly, JPG Specs are inserted as follows: GRENDEL.JPG (519x697,color) This specification is always inserted before any existing description. If a description becomes to long for the standard 60 characters field, the overshoot is discarded !!! 3. How to Use it JPGSPECS.EXE expects to get only one parameter: the full path to the RENEGADE.DAT file. After that it can find whatever it needs... JPG Specifications are only inserted if the file-description does not begin with a '('. That means that once specs are inserted, they are inserted. (Otherwise you would get something like this: GARFIELD.GIF (407x443,256c) (407x443,256c) (407x443,256c) (407x443,256c) and you don't want that, do you ?) A parameter '/R' can be specified, however, to specify you want to insert the specs of all JPG files, even those who have already specs inserted. JPGSPECS.EXE check for that, and if there are already specs inserted, they are replaced by the new specs. This might be handy when your contact sheets have changed, but the filenames didn't. Another constraint: JPG specifications are only inserted in descriptions of files located in file-bases with the GIF-Specs flag set. Maybe it's an idea to place this utility in your batch file. It would be run every time a user logs off, so all just uploaded JPG's would have their specs in their descriptions. 4. Comments, etc. This programm is freeware. You may distribute it freely.
