APPSIG.EXE A signature utility for Waffle systems Copyright by Roy M. Silvernail June 1, 1991 README by Ralph Sims (ralphs@halcyon.com) and Roy Silvernail (roy%cybrspc@cs.umn.edu) liberally plagiarized from APPSIG.C This program is free. You can't sell it or charge for it. My copyright is there because I wrote it, not because I want to restrict distribution. Copy around and share, please! APPSIG forms a wrapper around your editor, and offers the user the opportunity to append a choice of signatures stored in his home dir as *.sig files. For Waffle usage, use this form of editor line: (edit specific paths as appropriate) appsig /access=1 /screen /command="c:\waffle\bin\appsig c:\user\%A q.exe %i" Note that you may specify any editor with APPSIG. It will search the path to locate the program specified. So, for BBStevie, you would use bbstevie /access=1 /screen /command="c:\waffle\bin\appsig c:\user\%A bbstevie ! c:\user\%A %i" (with no line break, of course) RALPH'S NOTES (with some help from Roy): APPSIG works only with external editors and not the internal line editor. Since many users choose to use the internal editor (and not BBSTEVIE [grin]), they miss the opportunity to use custom sigs. However, sigs that exist in their ~/user directory (mailsig and sig) and the systemwide ~/system/sig will get in the way of APPSIG when they DO switch from the internal editor. To work around this problem, place two empty files, sig and mailsig, in the ~/user directory and hide them, using ATTRIB +H sig and ATTRIB +H mailsig. This keeps them out of the way where they can't cause problems, and Waffle won't add extra stuff to the end of messages. Custom *.sig files are then created in the ~/user directory and that's all there is to the installation. When you save a news or mail message, you'll be presented with a list of the *.sig files. Choose one, and then you'll be offered the opportunity to Save, Quit, Edit, or List your post. If you choose Edit, remember to choose 'No' sig the second time you save the message. Otherwise, you'll double up your signature.
