HopAlong FTP uses the current version (5/12/93) of the MSCOMM.VBX custom control. If you are running other applications which use this control, it may be necessary to restart Windows before and/or after running HopAlong FTP for Windows. You will need either an internal or external PC-compatible modem, preferably a V.32 or higher class modem. Search for "Modem Requirements" in the HopAlong FTP Help File. The Release consists of a single floppy disk. 2.0 Hard Disk Space Required You need approximately 1.0 MB of hard disk space to install HopAlong FTP for Windows. HopAlong FTP for Windows maintains error log and history files which consume disk space. See the HopAlong FTP Help File for information on deleting old versions of these files. 3.0 Installing HopAlong FTP for Windows for the first time Complete the following steps to install HopAlong FTP for Windows for the first time. 1 Start Windows. 2 In the Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu. 3 Enter drive:\SETUP.EXE in the Command Line edit box, where drive is the drive containing the HopAlong FTP for Windows Disk. For example: A:\SETUP.EXE. Alternatively, HopAlong FTP for Windows can be installed from your hard drive by copying the contents of the installation disk to a directory on your hard drive, and running SETUP from that directory. 4 Follow the instructions on the screen to install the software. While installing HopAlong FTP for Windows a warning might be displayed in a message box indicating that SETUP cannot copy a file since the destination file is in use. If so, you should click the OK button and continue with the installation. You will be asked to name an installation drive and directory. The default is C:\HOPALONG. If during the installation you are asked for permission to modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to include the use of SHARE.EXE, then you might not be able to reliably run HopAlong FTP for Windows until the indicated modification is made. If you are running Microsoft Workgroups for Windows, you do not need to use SHARE.EXE in order for HopAlong FTP for Windows to run reliably. HopAlong FTP for Windows consists of two programs named RELAYE.EXE and RELAYD.EXE. A Program Group will be created for HopALong FTP for Windows. 5 See the Getting Started Section below for suggestions on how to proceed following installation. 4.0 Getting Started If you are installing HopAlong FTP for Windows for the first time, then before running either of the HopAlong FTP for Windows programs you should read the Getting Started Topic in the HopAlong FTP Help File.
