WinRamp Dialing Directory Converter Version 1.00 ------------------------------------------------ This conversion program is FREEWARE and may distrubuted and copied without any restriction. We do request however that the utility is distrbuted in it's orginal archive, WRCNVT10.ZIP along with the following files: CONVERT.EXE CONVERT.ICO CONVERT.PIF CONVERT.TXT (This file) WINRAMP.TXT OR with the orginal file distribution set of WinRamp Lite (shareware) Description ----------- CONVERT is a DOS utility that will convert the dialing directory or phone-books from a number of popular communications programs to the WinRamp Lite Dialing Directory format. A WinRamp Dialing Directory can also be created from a specially prepared ASCII text file. About WinRamp Lite ------------------ WinRamp Lite is a commercial-quality communications application for Windows 3.1, available as "Try-Before-You-Buy" Shareware. Please read the accompanying information text file: WINRAMP.TXT. Running the Convert Utility -------------------------------- CONVERT will be installed by default into the WinRamp Lite directory along with the other WinRamp Lite program and data files. The utility can be run from the DOS prompt by typing CONVERT or by clicking on the Convert icon that is automatically setup during the installation of WinRamp Lite. 2. Configuring the Conversion Parameters ------------------------------------------ To successfully convert a directory to the WinRamp Lite dialing directory all four configuration windows must contain valid parameters: 2.1. Press Alt-M or Tab to move to the Source Format configuration window. The currently active configuration window will be marked by a bright white border. Select a support source dialing directory format from the pick-list (press Down Arrow to access the picklist). 2.2. Press Alt-D or Tab to move to the WinRamp Directory configuration window. Type in the destination or target WinRamp Lite directory containing the WinRamp Lite program and data files, or use the pick-list navigation aid to navigate to the WinRamp Directory by pressing the Down Arrow. 2.3. Press Alt-S or Tab to move to the Source File & Path configuration window. Type in the source directory file name and DOS path to the source file, or use the pick-list navigation aid to navigate to the directory containing the source directory file. 2.4. Press Alt-M or Tab to move to the Dialing Directory Name configuration window. A default WinRamp Dialiong Directory name and file name will already exist based on the Source file format you have chosen. At this point you may edit both the Directory Name and file name. 3. Selecting Specific Entries to be Converted ----------------------------------------------- It is possible to select specific entries from the source directory file. 3.1. Press F2 to open the Browse Mode window. This window will only open if all the configuration parameters are valid. If a parameter is invalid, an error message providing the details will be displayed on the bottom line of the screen. 3.2. Use the PgDn, PgUp, Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys to browse the list of entries from the source format. Tag or mark the specific entries you want included in the target WinRamp dialing directory by pressing the Spacebar on highlighted entries. Tagged or marked entries can be untagged or unmarked by pressing the Spacebar a second time. 3.3. Pressing F4 will tag ALL entries in the source directory file, and pressing F5 will clear all tagged entries. 4. Converting Source File Entries ----------------------------------- 4.1. Press F3 to convert ALL entries in the source directory file regardless of any tagged entries. 4.2. Press F6 to convert ONLY tagged entries in the source directory file. 5. Preparing an ASCII Comma Delimited Source File -------------------------------------------------- A standard ASCII text file can be used as the source file when prepared using the following format options: ,,,,<#1>,<#2>,,,<#n> Field 1 BBS name Field 2 Device Name - must already exist in WinRamp Lite, otherwise the DEFAULT Device will be used. Make sure of the EXACT spelling or leave BLANK for Default. Field 3 Protocol Name. Same conditions as for Device Name. Field 4 Terminal Name. Same conditions as for Device Name. Field 5-n BBS telephone numbers. Enter as many numbers as you require. Examples: WinRamp Support BBS,,,,508-373-2402 (Default Device, Protocol & Terminal) ABC BBS,USRobotics,Zmodem,ANSI,123-9876,123-9877,123-9878 (3 #'s) XYZ BBS,Generic 2400,,RIP,987-12345 (Default Protocol & 1 #) 6. The Resulting WinRamp Dialing Directory -------------------------------------------- 6.1. The information that is converted from the source directory is the name of the BBS/online system and the telephone number associated with it. If specified correctly (see above) , the Device, Protocol and Terminal names and multiple numbers can be converted from the ASCII comma delimited format. 6.2. The COM Port, terminal emulation, protocol and baud rate related to the entry are all set to the WinRamp Lite default. If you would like to change these settings, open the dialing directory in WinRamp Lite. The converted directory will appear in the dialing directory window provided it's path is the WinRamp installation directory. You can now edit any of the entries by selecting Edit from the Dialing Directory menu or clicking the Edit Entry button. 6.3.
