============================================================================== Newsy ============================================================================== Newsy is a shareware product subject to the terms detailed in the license agreement accompanying it. Newsy's price is declared in the file ORDERFRM.TXT. *********************************************** IMPORTANT! Before going any further, please read and accept the terms in the file LICENSE. *********************************************** Description =========== Newsy is a Microsoft Windows news and mail interface for UUCP products such as Waffle 1.65 and FXUUCP. It has been tested with Waffle 1.65. It has also been tested with the combination of FXUUCP and Waffle 1.65. Newsy should run properly on Microsoft Windows 3.1 or greater, Windows NT, and (presumably) Windows 95. Newsy is a 32-bit application written in Digitalk's Visual Smalltalk 3.0. Quick Installation Notes ======================== If you run Newsy under Windows 3.1 or greater, you must have installed the Win32s software provided by Microsoft. If you do not know where to get the Win32s software, please contact the author of Newsy. Unzip the NEWSY100.ZIP file into a directory named C:\NEWSY. Then read the NEWSY.WRI file. Reading NEWSY.WRI ================= The NEWSY.WRI file is a Windows Write file with Bitmaps linked and embedded within it. To read it you must have the Windows Write and Paintbrush programs. When you attempt to view it, you will see a dialog box asking, "Do you want to update links now?" Answer Yes; this will ensure that the embedded pictures are displayed properly. After this, a second dialog box might appear stating, "Some linked documents were unavailable and could not be updated." Press the Links button. You'll be shown a third dialog box with several links highlighted. Press the Update Now button. When it finishes, press the Automatic radio button, and then press OK. NEWSY.WRI should then be displayed. You may choose to save these changes, though there is no guarantee that this will not occur again. You may see different dialog boxes if you install Newsy someplace other than C:\NEWSY. In the dialog box simply choose each link individually and Edit each, pointing to the correct file location each time. The NEWSY.WRI file was created with Windows running in 1024x768 screen resolution. The table of contents in NEWSY.WRI gives valid page numbers if you are running at 1024x768, but will probably be wrong if you run in other screen resolutions. This is because the embedded pictures occupy larger or smaller portions of their respective pages at different screen resolutions, and text is automatically adjusted accordingly (but not the table of contents). The author apologizes for the annoying stuff you have to do to read NEWSY.WRI. He is a bit new at using the embedding and linking options with Write, and would have avoided it if there were some other way to ensure that the embedded pictures will display properly at different screen resolutions.
