VWeave V1.0 Virtuoso Software Last Updated April 18, 1995 ================================================================== What is VWeave? VWeave is a shareware application that processes uqwk summary files and allows you to select only those topics that you are interested in for downloading. VWeave remembers all threads and sorts them into three categories: new threads, previously read threads, and skipped threads. Why should I use VWeave? VWeave lets you download ONLY the threads you are interested in reading. You no longer need to waste time and storage space downloading unwanted articles. Because you spend less time on line, you can also save considerably on your on-line charges. VWeave is shareware - what does that mean to me? Shareware is software that is marketed using a "try before you buy" concept. This means that you have 30 days from the time you install VWeave to try out the product. If at the end of the 30 days you decide that you do not want to continue using VWeave, simply delete it from your system. If, however, you decide to keep VWeave, you must pay for and register it. See the Register topic on the Help pull-down menu for complete information on registering and paying for VWeave. Can I Redistribute VWeave? The unregistered version of VWeave may be redistributed as long as: · It is clearly marked as shareware · The original kit is distributed in its entirety (the "kit" includes all help files, executable files, and copyright information). The registered version of this product may not be redistributed. What do I receive when I register VWeave? When you register VWeave, you receive: o A floppy disk that contains a version of VWeave with the registration reminder removed o A set of uqwk scripts that you can use on your UNIX account to facilitate offline processing o Free support via e-mail (which is also available to people still in the 30-day evaluation period who have not yet registered) On what kind of system will VWeave run? VWeave will run on the following system configurations: o PCs with a 386/25 or higher processor running Windows NT 3.5 or later. At least 12 MB of memory is also required. o PCs with a 386 or higher processor running Windows or Windows for Workgroups 3.1 or later with Win32s 1.20 or later, and at least 4 MB of memory. I have Windows 3.1 - what is Win32s? Win32s is a set of libraries that allows 32-bit applications (such as VWeave) to run on Windows 3.1. Installing Win32s will not affect any other applications on your system. Win32s requires at least 2.2 MB of disk space. 5.2 MB is required if you install OLE support, but OLE is not required for VWeave. How do I tell if I already have Win32s? If Win32S is installed, there will be a subdirectory called WIN32S in the Windows system directory. How can I obtain Win32s? Win32s can be downloaded from ftp.microsoft.com. Currently V1.20 is in the file SoftLib/MSLFiles/PW1118.EXE, although by the time you read this a more recent version might exist. You can check the developr/win32dk/sdk-public directory for up-to-date information about Win32s. I have an older version of Win32s - do I really need to update it to V1.20 or later? Previous versions of Win32s had a bug that could cause system instability when VWeave invokes a compression utility. VWeave will run fine on previous versions of Win32s if you do not use a compression utility. How much disk space do I need to install and run VWeave? VWeave installation will take approximately half a megabyte of disk space. Do I need any additional software to run VWeave? To run VWeave, you must have uqwk V1.8 or later available on your service provider's machine. It is also highly recommended that you use a compression utility, preferably one that uses the ZIP format (such as PKZIP) on both your own computer and that of the service provider. What is uqwk and what does it have to do with VWeave? uqwk is a program that creates a packet of new mail and news that can be downloaded for off-line reading. To verify that uqwk is installed, enter the following command at the UNIX prompt: which uqwk If the system responds by displaying something like: /usr/bin/uqwk then uqwk is installed. If uqwk is not installed, you can copy it from the ftp site: ftp.gte.com:/pub/uqwk How can I obtain the VWeave kit? VWeave can be obtained from: o CompuServe - Download VWEAVE10.ZIP from Library 4 (PC Internet S/W) in the INETRESOURCE forum.
