This file summarizes the time it took to download a long file with the YMODEM protocol, a Hayes 1200 modem at 1200 baud connected to an IBM XT with a NEC V20 processor running with a standard crystal and four different communications programs. I downloaded file QMDM22.ARC, which is 123522 bytes long, from The Forbin Project bulletin board at (612) 824-8167. Since I am in the Twin Cities, this is a local call. The bulletin board runs under PCBoard software. PCBoard said the file contained 121 blocks, and it estimated the download time at 17 minutes, 57 seconds, or 1077 seconds. Each download was error-free. When possible, I used the clock on the screen; otherwise, I used a watch with a second counter. I could not be precise as to when the download actually started or as to when it stopped. As a result, the timings are not exact, but they should be within 5 seconds of the actual time.
