@HEADLINE = VS Laser Tool Kit @BYLINE = by Don Kelley This is a review of the VS Laser Tool Kit from: VS Software, P.O. Box 6158, 2101 S. Broadway, Little Rock, AR 72216, Phone: (501 376-2083. It comes free with the purchase of fonts or the font generator, otherwise, it retails at $50. The tool kit includes two downloading utilities. One is a manual type program called LOADFONT that permits you to download up to 32 fonts or a maximum of 345K, assign them as temporary or permanent and print out a listing of each font along with a text message and a list of the decimal code for each character. The other download program, AUTODL, does the same thing as above except its all automatic and you don't get the printout of the fonts. The program assigns ID numbers and loads from either a file containing a list of the fonts to be downloaded or a list of the fonts on the command line. It will provide a hard copy of the font list downloaded along with the assigned ID numbers. DELFONT is a simple program provided to delete all soft fonts from the printer's memory and knowledge. VS also provides printer driver makers to assist you in creating drivers for MicroSoft Word and Word Perfect. MSHP creates a PRD file for Word that you can then use Word's MAKEPRD (Ver 3) to create the actual driver. WPHP is the utility to modify the Word Perfect printer interface to use your soft fonts. The last major utility is HPLAND. It turns a portrait font into a landscape font. Overall, the VS Font Management Manual was clearly written and easy enough to understand. They used screen dumps and examples to make the commands easily understood.
