Message # 2 From: GALLERY Sent on: 08/10/88 Subject: WINDOWS 386 & VER. 3.03 BIOS There is an apparent incompatibilty between the version 3.03 BIOS and Windows 386. We have a Micronics motherboard in the 386 machine. Running Windows 386 version 2.03 it is impossible to access the floppy drive! The problem is not there with the earlier 2.09 BIOS. Is there a solution for this? Please advise ASAP Micro Gallery Columbus OHIO 614 262-1392 ask for: Hassan Thank you! Message # 3 From: TECHNICAL SUPPORT Sent on: 08/20/88 Subject: W386 Question We have found that the problem is related to speed switching. On the 3.03 BIOS, switch to low speed occurs during floppy accesses to ensure greater reliablility of data transfer. The BIOS by default automatically does this. W386 ddoes not enjoy this feature. The problem can be avoided by disabling speed switching (called NSS, No Speed Switch), entirely, disabling floppy speed switching (NFS),, or MODHEX disabling sp. sw. We recommend NSS or MODHEXing. Micronics has been made aware of this.
