This is the info I found out to enable the connection of my Sony Multiscan to the VGA from the PS/2 model 50. Initially I had the adapter for the NEC MultiSync (I think... the dealer gave me this little cable, but when I attached the Sony cable to this, and then the short adapter to the VGA 15-pin, I got a screen that scrolled all over the place, and had all the wrong colors.) In addition to scrolling, I rec'd a 2401 error from the startup tests; when I ran the diagnostics (difficult when the screen is jumping and overlapping like mad!) I got a 2402 error, and the message that the VGA had a problem and the system board needed to be replaced. (false) I got the Sony pinout from somewhere (this is the analog): Pin function ---------------- 1 gnd 2 gnd 3 red 4 grn 5 blu 6 gnd 7 no connection 8 horiz sync 9 vert sync ============================== I called IBM customer service... the fellow searched thru his database, and gave me the following... Pin function ---------------- 1 red 2 grn 3 blu 4 reserved 5 digital g. (I assumed this meant gnd) 6 red rtn (must be the return signal that informs the vga that this is a color on monochrome monitor) 7 grn rtn 8 blu rtn 9 plug (no funcion?) 10 digital g. 11 reserved 12 reserved 13 horiz. sync 14 vert sync 15 reserved ========================== I took the cable apart (my dealer seemed incapable of finding out what the problem was) and found that that not a single one of the wires was connected to the correct pin! When I rebuilt it to match the above, the Sony works perfectly, and I get no more error beeps or codes. It's interesting that the diagnostics don't seem to distinguish between the monitor and the system board ... I guess they just assume you will be using the IBM monitor... altho' it seems to me I saw a message somewhere that someone else who had a 2401 error had problems with the monitor. Hope this helps a few people! ..Mike
