Telix Software Support BBS - (416) 284-0682. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Telix release 3.0 - Feature Summary ----------------------------------- Telix v3.0 is a full-featured communications program for PCs running the PC/MS-DOS operating system, that is able to meet the needs of al- most any user. Features include: File Transfers: --------------- 11 error detecting and correcting file transfer protocols are supported internally, including Xmodem, Zmodem, Compuserve Quick B, Kermit, Xmodem-1k, Xmodem-1k-g, Ymodem, Ymodem-g, Telink, and Modem7. Three of these protocols are particularly well suited for use with high-speed modems or high-speed links. As well, text files may be transferred in pure ASCII mode. A status window is displayed while file transfers are in progress, showing bytes/blocks transferred, file name, transfer time, and a charac- ters per second up to that point efficiency rating. Up to four external protocols may be easily added, and integrate into the existing menus. When non-batch a file transfer is performed, telix can often guess the name of the file to transfer, based on your past keystrokes! As well, the last protocol used is remembered. Dialing Directory: ------------------ Dialing directories hold information on up to 1000 remote sys- tems, and you may create as many dialing directories as needed. Each directory entry holds a remote system's name, phone number, line settings, last call date, total calls, default terminal, de- fault protocol, password, and several other fields. Up to 10 entries may be selected to dial in sequence until a con- nection is reached. After you are finished with that service, it is removed from the dialing queue and the remaining numbers may be dialed. Terminal Emulation: ------------------- DEC VT102* terminal emulation is supported, including all fea- tures except 128 column mode and double height characters. Double width characters are simulated by adding an extra space character after each normal character. DEC VT52* terminal emulation is supported. Standard key tables are supplied for each terminal type, but any text string can also be assigned to any key for use with a termi- nal. (VT102 and VT52 are registered trademarks of Digital Equipment Corporation. Script Language: ---------------- Telix 3.0 includes the SALT script language. SALT (Script Appli- cation Language for Telix) is a real structured programming lan- guage which can be used to do almost any communications related task through Telix. SALT programs consists of named functions, may contain global and local string and integer variables (which you name), and include conditional and looping statements such as 'if', 'for', 'while', 'do...while', 'break', 'continue', and function calls. There are over 125 built in functions to deal with virtually any task, including input and output to the screen and comm port, waiting for multiple strings to appear from the comm port, input and output to multiple files, file handling, and access to any feature available in Telix's terminal mode. Host Mode: ---------- The Host Mode allows callers to log-in to your computer and transfer files, or shell to DOS, with full password security. Since the Host Mode is written as a SALT script, it may easily be customized if needed. Scroll-Back: ------------ Scroll through and review up to 64 Kilobytes (approx. 32-100 pages) of information that was previously displayed on the termi- nal screen. Capture File: ------------- All incoming text may be saved to a 'capture' file. Capturing may be temporarily paused without closing the file. As well, an image of the current terminal screen may be easily saved to disk. Status Bar: ----------- An optional status bar may be placed at the bottom or top of the terminal mode screen. This status bar contains information on several current settings, including comm port settings, status of the capture file, total time on-line, current script file execut- ing, and a few other fields. Keyboard Macros: ---------------- Text strings may be assigned to almost all key combinations, to be sent as needed while in terminal mode. Configuration: -------------- Easy access to current communications parameters, and eight screens of default settings, without having to run an external program. Full Access to DOS: ------------------- While in terminal mode, one keystroke combination drops you into a DOS shell. Another keystroke combination allows you to specify a command to the DOS command interpreter, and return to Telix as soon as it is finished. From a DOS Functions menu, you may also view a Files directory, delete files, and change the current drive or directory. Translate Table: ---------------- All incoming characters may be stripped or exchanged before they are processed by the terminal screen. Usage Log: ---------- A Usage log may be opened. All successful connections and data settings used for each call are recorded in this file, as well as what files are transferred and with what efficiency. And many other features! ------------------------ Many other features, including a fast, easy, yet powerful user interface and well thought out design. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PTel, Post Office Box 130, West Hill, Ont. M1E 4R4. Telix Software Support BBS - (416) 284-0682. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This bulletin describes most of the features that are new or have changed in Telix version 3.0. For a description of all the features in Telix v3.0, there is a separate bulletin. New features include: o SALT script language. This is a full programing language built into Telix that allows user named functions and local and global variables. SALT includes looping and conditional statements such as 'if', 'for', 'while', 'do...while',, 'break', and 'continue', as well as over 125 built-in functions dealing with input/out to the screen, comm port, and disk files, and well as many other tasks. o DEC VT102 and VT52 terminal emulation is supported. Terminal keys may be freely edited/changed. o Zmodem protocol support added internally. This is a super-reli- able and very fast protocol. o Compuserve Quick B protocol support added internally. This is a fast protocol for use with Compuserve. o Xmodem-1k-g and Ymodem-g protocol support added internally. These variations are for use with high-speed modems or high-speed error free links. o Up to 4 external protocols may be added and integrate into the standard protocol selection menu. o The dialing directory has been much enhanced. It is now variable sized and may hold up to 1000 entries. New fields for each entry include last call date, total calls, default terminal type, de- fault protocol type, local echo on/off, add line feeds on/off, backspace interpretation (destructive/non-destructive), backspace key swapping on/off, dialing prefix number to use, and password. o Hardware handshaking is supported. This is mainly used with high- speed modems and links, to prevent data overflows. Both CTS/RTS and DSR/DTR hardware handshaking are supported. o A status line has been added. Its use is optional, and it may be placed at either the bottom or the top of the terminal screen. o A translate table facility has been added. You may define and save more than one translate table, and load each as needed. o The scroll back buffer size can now be increased 64 Kilobytes, allowing you to review from 30-100 pages of info that was previ- ously displayed on the terminal screen (if the 64k maximum size is used). o A Usage Log facility has been added. When turned on, this keeps track of successful connections to remote services, and of what files are transferred. o Telix now supports baud rates up to 115200 bps. Obviously some computers (slow ones) can not handle speeds that high. o Up to 8 comm port may be defined. For each port, the interrupt request number and port address to use may be specified. o Keyboard macros may be assigned to any key and most key combina- tions. o Telix is now contained in one large file instead of an EXE file and a separate OVL file. Overlays are still used to save memory however, but if you have extra ram in the form of EMS (or have a lot of free main memory), overlays are loaded into it for faster access. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PTel, Post Office Box 130, West Hill, Ont.
