Date: May 29, 1987 Number: 185 Title: CORRECTION FOR DMA CHANNEL INITIALIZATION WITH SFT NETWARE LEVEL II We have discovered that the cold boot loader included with SFT NetWare Level II does not properly initialize and enable DMA when the file server is booted from the hard disk. LAN adapters that require DMA 1 or 3 will be affected, i.e., Orchid, AST, Santa Clara, PCNet and IBM PC Network. If this loader is used with these adapters, workstations will not be able to communicate with the file server. Any other LAN interface using DMA channels 1 or 3 will also be affected. The faulty loader is identified as: LOADER.DAT 6656 11-21-86 10:24a The problem is corrected by replacing the cold boot loader on the hard disk with the one described below: LOADER.DAT 6656 5-20-87 12:17p This new loader is available on NetWire as: LOAD.ARC The new boot loader is installed by bringing down the file server, booting DOS, and running the INSTALL program. At the Install menu, insert a diskette containing the new boot loader. Select Option 4 which is "install cold boot loader." At this point, the new loader will be written to the hard disk. When the Install menu returns, exit the program using Option 10. Then reboot the file server. Until you receive the LOADER.DAT, to correct the problem you can boot the OS from the floppy and this will bypass the LOADER.DAT.
