Date: October 20,1987 Number: 197 Title: COLD BOOTING UPGRADED SERVERS Some file servers, particularly the 286B, will not cold boot the operating system after the operating system has either been re-copied onto the system or the operating system has been upgraded (for example from SFT Level I to SFT Level II). The error "checksum error in load file" will be displayed when attempting to cold boot. The problem is corrected by installing a revised cold boot loader. This is available on NetWire or from LANSWER. To install the loader, complete the following steps: 1. Copy the revised cold boot loader onto the working copy of your NetWare "INSTALL diskette. 2. Bring down your file server. 3. Boot DOS on the server. 4. Insert your working copy of the NetWare "INSTALL" diskette into drive A of the file server. 5. Type: INSTALL An installation menu will appear. 6. Choose Option 4, "Install cold boot loaders." After the loader is installed, the installation menu will appear again. 7. Exit the program and reboot the server. The file server will now cold boot from the hard disk. NetWare is a trademark of Novell, Inc. NetWire is a servicemark of Novell, Inc.
