Date: January 25, 1988 Number: #206 TITLE: ELS IRQ-3 DISABLE CORRECTION It has been discovered that when NetWare ELS-1 is used with either the Novell NE-1000 or the 3Com 3C501 in the file server, IRQ-3 may in a particular instance, be taken from the network card causing the workstations to loose their connection with the file server. This occurs ONLY when a program written in interpretive BASIC or IBM or Microsoft Compiled basic version 1.0 is run on the file server/workstation. Interrupt 3 will be taken from the Lan card when the application terminates. The only solution that is currently available is to re-configure the operating system to use either interrupt 2,5 or 7, whichever is available. The available options for 3C501 support are: Configuration of LAN A Interface: Network address [00000001] Node address is determined automatically. Hardware Option: 3Com EtherLink * 0: IRQ = 3, IO Address = 300h, No DMA, No ROM used (check decode) 1: IRQ = 5, IO Address = 300h, No DMA, No ROM used (check decode) 2: IRQ = 3, IO Address = 310h, No DMA, No ROM used (check decode) 3: IRQ = 5, IO Address = 310h, No DMA, No ROM used (check decode) 4: IRQ = 2, IO Address = 300h, Not for assy 345 (check decode) 5: IRQ = 2, IO Address = 310h, Not for assy 345 (check decode) 6: IRQ = 4, IO Address = 300h, Not for assy 345 (check decode) 7: IRQ = 4, IO Address = 310h, Not for assy 345 (check decode) 8: IRQ = 6, IO Address = 300h, Not for assy 345 (check decode) 9: IRQ = 6, IO Address = 310h, Not for assy 345 (check decode) 10: IRQ = 7, IO Address = 300h, Not for assy 345 (check decode) 11: IRQ = 7, IO Address = 310h, Not for assy 345 (check decode) The NE-1000 options are: Configuration of LAN A Interface: Network address [00000001] Node address is determined automatically. Hardware Option: NetWare Ethernet NE-1000 * 0: IRQ = 3, I/O Base = 300h, no DMA or ROM 1: IRQ = 2, I/O Base = 320h, no DMA or ROM 2: IRQ = 4, I/O Base = 340h, no DMA or ROM 3: IRQ = 5, I/O Base = 360h, no DMA or ROM 4: IRQ = 2, I/O Base = 300h, no DMA or ROM 5: IRQ = 3, I/O Base = 320h, no DMA or ROM 6: IRQ = 5, I/O Base = 340h, no DMA or ROM 7: IRQ = 4, I/O Base = 360h, no DMA or ROM 8: IRQ = 4, I/O Base = 300h, no DMA or ROM 9: IRQ = 5, I/O Base = 320h, no DMA or ROM 10: IRQ = 2, I/O Base = 340h, no DMA or ROM 11: IRQ = 3, I/O Base = 360h, no DMA or ROM * is the current configuration option number The utility "SCONFIG.EXE" will be needed to change the option. It is found on "GENOS-3" of all 2.0a NetWare systems or can be downloaded from NetWire with this bulletin as "ELS-FIX.ARC." It will be necessary that a copy of "NET$OS.EXE" resides on the same diskette as "SCONFIG.EXE." Change the configuration option number to the one desired by typing "SCONFIG NET$OS.EXE A:,,?" where "?" corresponds to the desired option number. The table from the first page will be displayed with an "*" being displayed next to the option number selected. Use the re-configured operating system to boot your ELS-I file server. Before doing so, it be will necessary to change the settings on the board to match the software settings. Contact your dealer for instructions on how to change the settings. The ELS supplied documentation only shows how to set up the default settings.
