Operation : Force of Arms "A Conventional War" Written By: Derrick Parkhurst and Isaac Shaffer Title Screen Animation By: Shane Chambers OverView: This game is one of pure power and strategy. The object is to take over 6 Base Zones and 4 Battle Zones. The map is set up in this manor: BZ = Battle Zone BS = Base Zone _______________________________________________ [ | | | ] [ BZ | BS | BS | BZ ] [ Zone : 1 | Zone : 2 | Zone : 3 | Zone : 4 ] [___________|___________|___________|___________] [ | | | ] [ BS | BZ | BZ | BS ] [ Zone : 5 | Zone : 6 | Zone : 7 | Zone : 8 ] [___________|___________|___________|___________] [ | | | ] [ BS | BZ | BZ | BS ] [ Zone : 9 | Zone : 10 | Zone : 11 | Zone : 12 ] [___________|___________|___________|___________] [ | | | ] [ BZ | BS | BS | BZ ] [ Zone : 13 | Zone : 14 | Zone : 15 | Zone : 16 ] [___________|___________|___________|___________] Zones: Each Zone is a very complex set of topicgraphical blueprints that describe the terrain by using a set of back ground colors: Color Monitor Users: Red - Desert Blue - Water Green - Plains Magenta - Bushes Brown - Impassable Moutains Gray - Moutains Cyan - Marshes For those mono-monitor users we have created a special chart that instead of using background colors it will use characters to indicate the current terrain. Mono Monitor User: ° - Desert ÷ - Water ú - Plains # - Bushes X - Impassable Moutains ^ - Moutians ð - Marsh = - Air Strip Allegiance: All commanders are given a Zone to control at the time they logon, in turn each Zone has an Allegiance color. These Allegiance colors are represented by these foreground colors: Color users: Zone : Color -------------- 2 : Light Blue 3 : Light Green 5 : Light Cyan 8 : Light Red 9 : Light Magenta 12 : Yellow 14 : White 15 : Black All other zones are rebel controlled zones and are a blinking black color. Mono users: Since foreground colors are not intellegable on mono systems we have also implemented a substitusion system for the allegiances. Since one back ground color other than black can be seen on an mono system we decided to use a white back ground and a black foreground for all enemy troops and equipment. All white foreground and black back ground troops will belong to you. This acts as your main guide. You will notice that the data box on the lower right side of the box will show what is currently under the pointer. To move a piece that belongs to you, move your pointer onto the top of the piece you wish to move and press the space bar. then move your piece with keypad (Numlocks On). To attack an opposing piece just move into its current position and a White Flashing "B" will appear which means that a battle is to be resolved at nightly maint. Moving Diffrences: Airplanes and Transports use a diffrent style of movement then all other types of weaponry. Airplanes and Transports: First, your piece will disappear off of the map and you may move the piece, but once a piece is moved it is final (the required movement points will be subtracted from the total). Tanks and Infantry: The method used for movement of these pieces is that you will be allowed to position a piece on the board before you place it for sure. At the bottom of the screen a movement cost will be displayed in order that you can place the piece within its movement limits. Legend : A Brief overview of all the pieces and what they represent. Zones : Zones allowes you to load up any other zone on the map as long as you have pieces occupying it. The acceptable input for this option is 1-16. You must move the highlighted cursor bar over to the zones option and press the space bar. then it will ask you which zone you wish to jump to. Quit : This will return you to the BBS. Recon Files : This function allows you view previously made reconacance files. NewsFile : This function not implemented yet. Rankings : This will compare your status to the other 8 players currently involved in the game. Radio : This allows you to transmit a message to another Empire. Special Features: Recon Planes: Recon Planes can take snapshots that are viewable via the Recon Files menu. To take a recon snapshot of a Zone, move the plane into a Zone you wish to make a snapshot of and press "S" and it will create a snap- shot of the current zone. Transports: Transports can move Infantry, Mortars, Anti-Tank Guns, and Anti-Airplane Guns. To load a piece into a Transport you must first be in an adjacent space, then hit the "L" (For Load). Move your transport, and to unload type "U" (For Unload). You cannot drop your transport if you have cargo in it. You must first drop off all cargo. Mortars, Anti-Tank Guns, and Anti-Aircraft Guns: These long distance weapons can shell an enemy from a 1 zone distance. Although these weapons cannot move on thier own they can be transported by a Transport. The amount of times the gun can fire is stored in the movement point slot, so dont get it confused and think that one of these weapons can move. To shell an enemy, move the pointer onto a gun and press "A" (for Attack). This will get you into a mode where the pointer will allow you to select a target for shelling. when a target is selected press the space bar to attack. Construction Soldiers: Construction soldiers can be used to build up a town to the next rating level. First you must move a Construction soldier next to a town and drop him off(V's are construction soldiers). Then move onto the town and press "B" (for Build Up Town). It will then tell you the cost of building up the town and ask you if you want to procede. 3 Day Logon Rule: If a user does not logon to the game for 3 consecutive days his control over a country will be lost, and given to the next new player that wishes to logon and play. The reason for this rule is simple, it permits users to test the game out and stop playing if they wish, then allowing another user to play instead of the previous user not participating therefore ruining the game. Press any key to return to the game.
