COURSE: Cypress Point Club LOCATION: Pebble Beach, California ORIGINAL DESIGNER: Alister Mackenzie JNUG DESIGNER: Scott Chesney Welcome to the Cypress Point Club. Many believe this is the most beautiful course in the entire world. I have done my best to faithfully duplicate the beautiful monterey cypress, pines, and other vegetation on the Monterey Peninsula. I believe the course plays much like it would in real life for a good golfer....the weather conditions have great impact. On a day with little wind and normal greens, you have the capacity to bring the course to its beautiful knees, primarily because the par fives are always eagle possibilities here. On a windy day and particularly with fast greens, it is a tough challenge. I recommend you establish such conditions if you are besting the course consistently at other condition levels. I have paid careful attention to many of the well known holes at Cypress. I particularly enjoy number 17. Aim your drive just left of the clump of cypress bordering the ocean. You don't want to hit the clump though or you will not have an approach. Number 9 is a great hole, tempting you to drive the green, which can be done. Actually, the hole plays shorter than 292, but the gamble could turn a relatively easy birdie into a double or triple bogey. 16 is the most famous hole and I have done the best I could to duplicate the detail of the hole. Probably six is my personal favorite par 5. Positioning is crucial here. Hopefully, you will have a good time with the course. Another excellent course for download is Kiele by Jay Johnson. It is a beautiful course with very subtle challenges. I recommend it highly. I welcome any comments or specific suggestions you might have. Good playing to you.
