OTHER PROGRAMS FROM SOFTWARE BY SEIDMAN In addition to WPTOOLS, Software by Seidman publishes several other WordPerfect-related shareware programs. These programs are distributed through the usual shareware channels, and you may obtain them that way and try them before you register. Or you can reach us through CompuServe, 70441, 2414. ------------------------------------------------------------ WPMD -- The Wperf5 File Doctor -------------------------------- WPMD fixes sick or broken WordPerfect Version 5.x files. There are many different symptoms of a sick or broken file. Sometimes some or all of the text disappears, although the file size indicates that the text should still be there. Sometimes WPerf5 fails to recognize the file as a WPerf5 document file. And sometimes other things go wrong. WPMD can usually cure the file, creating a WPerf5 file requiring only minor cleanup. ------------------------------------------------------------ MACROAID -------- MacroAid includes seven utility programs for use with WordPerfect Corporation program macros. They work with macros for WordPerfect 5.0 and 5.1, PlanPerfect 5.0 and 5.1, DrawPerfect 1.0 and 1.1, ED 3.0, LetterPerfect 1.0, and Shell 3.0. They may work with later versions and other programs as well. (The will not work with the Windows version of WordPerfect.) These programs are primarily intended for the serious macro writer. MacroAid also includes a shell program to facilitate using the utility programs. Here are brief descriptions of the seven application programs: MacArgs: Changes assignments to macro variables with DOS commands. The DOS command MacArgs MyMacro.wpm -0Newstring -1AnotherString changes {ASSIGN}0~OldString~{ASSIGN}1~stuff~ to {ASSIGN}0~NewString~{ASSIGN}1~AnotherString~ in MyMacro. Example uses: (1) write self-modifying macros that store new information for later use, as for macros to number invoices consecutively; (2) customize complex macros for different users. MacAscii: Converts macros to ASCII text files or WordPerfect documents so that they can be edited in WordPerfect or an ASCII text editor. MacAscii also converts the ASCII text file or WordPerfect document back to a macro. Allows editing of macros too big for the built-in macro editor; editing of SH macros without WPCorp's ED editor; easy printing of macros; use of powerful text processing and editing tools readily available for ASCII text files. MacCalls: Lists the files required by {CHAIN}, {NEST}, and {SHELL MACRO} commands in a macro and the files required by these files. MacCrush: Compresses macros by eliminating comments and the tabs and spaces used only for formatting; replaces variable names and labels with two-character names and labels. Makes your macros load and execute faster. MacChang: Changes the product type and version numbers stored within macros. Changing your carefully developed WordPerfect macros to PlanPerfect macros, for example, sometimes results in a working PlanPerfect macro and should always at least make the conversion process easier. MacFind: Searches for text strings, macro commands, and key commands in macros specified with wildcard file specifications. MacRef: Provides a cross-reference listing of a macro -- a file with a line-numbered version of the text of the macro and a listing of each macro command, key command, variable name, shell variable name, label, and called file, with the line numbers on which each appears. An essential tool for the development and debugging of complex macros. ------------------------------------------------------------ GV2WP ----- GV2WP converts GrandView files to WordPerfect 4.2 or 5.0 files. The conversion is accomplished in a single step (in which GV2WP calls GV2TXT, a program by the author of GrandView, included with GV2WP). GV heading labels are converted to WordPerfect automatic paragraph number. Underlining, bolding, and other font attributes, and font size changes are preserved if you are converting to WordPerfect 5.0. Category information is optionally converted. Special codes allow drafting of footnotes in GrandView for conversion to WordPerfect. Numerous formatting options are available. ------------------------------------------------------------ PCOWP ----- PCOWP converts structured files produced by PC-Outline and other outlining programs to WordPerfect 4.2 or 5.0 files. Heading labels are converted to WordPerfect automatic paragraph numbers. With minor preprocessing by one PCOWP option, PC-Outline underlining is converted. Special codes can be used in your outlining program to allow conversion of other attributes, footnotes, and other features. Numerous formatting options are available. ------------------------------------------------------------ WPXREF ------ WPXREF provides for WPerf4.2 the kind of automatic reference capability that WordPerfect Corporation itself provided for WPerf5.0. You place some simple codes in your WPerf4.2 document indicating the cross-references you want. Just before printing the file, you run WPXREF on the file, creating a new output file in which the codes have been replaced by correct and up to date cross references to footnote numbers, paragraph numbers, and page numbers. You can then revise your original document, and run WPXREF on the revised original. The new output file has updated the cross-references to correspond to the changes you made in editing. ------------------------------------------------------------ Software by Seidman also publishes several WordPerfect-related programs that are not available as shareware. These programs include the following two: REMAP ----- REMAP translates any of the characters in the WordPerfect character sets to any other character in the WordPerfect character sets. The user supplies an ascii text file, each line of which specifies, by character set and character position, a character to be translated and the character to which it is to be translated. Thus a single pass through the document can handle as many replacements (translations) as desired. COUNTEM ------- COUNTEM counts the words in a WordPerfect file. Why use it instead of the word counting function built into WordPerfect? First, COUNTEM is faster on a file by file basis, and, if you have multiple files to process, is still faster overall, because it can handle wildcard input file specifications. Second, COUNTEM and WordPerfect have somewhat different ideas of what constitutes a word. The most important difference is that COUNTEM will treat as a word a string of WordPerfect characters that all display on screen as little boxes instead of proper characters. Thus even if you are using WordPerfect's English language module, you can count words written entirely in alphabets that do not display on screen. There are other differences in the way the two programs define words, but COUNTEM's definitions can easily be modified to meet your needs.
