It works equally well in single- and multi-program environments like DESQview. The Rhodes Warrior plays your MIDI files as you edit Ä you hear your changes instantly in the context of your own musical projects! It saves its data in standard binary format (also called "MIDIEX format") so it is compatible with bulk loaders and other utilities. Finally, it gives you complete control over both patch- and controller-oriented parameters. The Rhodes Warrior is ShareWare Ä not FreeWare. ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³ System Requirements ³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ The following equipment is required to use the Rhodes Warrior: Ä a PC running DOS 3.0 or above with at least 300K free RAM Ä a Roland MPU401 MIDI interface (or compatible) Ä a Roland Rhodes MK-80 MIDI Keyboard All you really NEED is the PC. However, the program is basically a "demo" without the MIDI hardware. ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³ Quick Start ³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ Connect a MIDI cable from the computer's MIDI Out to the MK-80's MIDI In. Copy all files into a new directory and change to that directory. Enter one of these four commands and press : W runs on MIDI channel 1 (MK-80's default). W /C:9 runs on channel 9 (change "9" to any MIDI channel from 1 to 16). W /C:0 runs with MIDI disabled Ä "demo" mode. If you have edited data via the MK-80's front panel and want to save it, use this "channel 0" option until you've read the SAVING NON-WARRIOR DATA section which follows. W /? displays a help screen explaining all of the Rhodes Warrior's command-line options. See WARRIOR.TXT for complete instructions Ä this file contains the Rhodes Warrior User's Manual. DOS gurus will find complete instructions there concerning segregating data and program directories, and using batch files and/or DESQview. ______________________________________________________________________________ Rhodes Warrior Ä MK-80 Editor/Librarian Ä Version 1.1 Copyright 1991 by Jeff Cazel Ä All Rights Reserved ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³ Shareware / Ordering Information ³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ The Rhodes Warrior is not a free program Ä it is distributed as shareware. The shareware concept allows you to evaluate a program to determine what it's worth to you, and then buy it if you are going to use it. You must register (buy) the program if you use it. This version of the Rhodes Warrior you have is fully-featured and is in no way crippled. Please respect this. If you use the Rhodes Warrior after an evaluation period of two weeks, register the program. If you don't think the Rhodes Warrior is worth the $39 registration fee, let me know this too, and I'll see if I can satisfy you with the next release. Registered users receive the latest version of the Rhodes Warrior with its professionally printed user's manual, 3.5MB of standard MIDI song files on diskette, 25% off MidiTools, and free telephone support. Beware of "universal" librarians that don't edit every parameter in their supported synthesizers. Dedicated to the MK-80, the Rhodes Warrior edits each patch- and controller-oriented parameter as listed on page 39 of the MK-80 Owner's Manual. Unfortunately, text files cannot contain formatting information such as bold, underline and different fonts. The printed user manual you'll receive upon registering looks more "correct" (and much "prettier") due to properly formatted proper names, keywords, typed commands, program messages and page headings. ______________________________________________________________________________ Rhodes Warrior Ä MK-80 Editor/Librarian Ä Version 1.1 Copyright 1991 by Jeff Cazel Ä All Rights Reserved ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³ Saving Non-Warrior Data ³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ (If you have not edited any patches on the MK-80 yet (or you have but don't want to save them), this section is irrelevant.) Because the Rhodes Warrior uses one-way MIDI communication only (see DESIGN PHILOSOPHY in WARRIOR.TXT), it does not read existing data in your MK-80. Thus, if you need to save any non-Rhodes Warrior patch changes, you have two options: (1) Dump the data via a third-party utility Ä there are several utility programs available on CompuServe and elsewhere that will allow you to save your data. These utilities save this data in standard binary format Ä fully-compatible with the Rhodes Warrior. Make sure you perform the "bulk dump" procedure described on page 29 of the MK-80 Owner's Manual to get all of the data (6208 bytes), make sure that you name the file with an .M80 extension (e.g., CURRENT.M80), and make sure you put it into the default directory. (2) Enter the data into the Rhodes Warrior Ä BE SURE to start the Rhodes Warrior with the /C:0 command-line option so you don't wipe out the data you're trying to salvage. Go through each patch you need and enter the LCD-displayed data into the Rhodes Warrior. Save the data and re-run the Rhodes Warrior without the /C:0. Upon loading this data file, the Warrior will transmit it to the MK-80 and you'll be back in business. ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³ Legal Stuff ³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ The Rhodes Warrior is a copyrighted program.
