+--- | | | RUNCH +-+- | EAGUE +--- FOOTBALL ----------------------------------------------------------------- VERSION 2.0 HELP ----------------------------------------------------------------- Brought to you by Crunchware! Copyright 1991 by Stephen David Introduction ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Start the drum roll and bring out the balloons! It's CRUNCH LEAGUE FOOTBALL 2.0! Totally revamped and rewritten, CLFB 2.0 has changed the face of on-liners. Besides being a unique football simulator, it now offers support for Crunchware's latest creation--Crunchterm. With Crunchterm, you can set up and coach your very own football team in a graphical environment. Now you can design your own plays and see your players. All you need is an IBM computer with CGA or EGA graphics to see a game that makes ANSI look pitiful. Even if you can't use Crunchterm, you can still enjoy the non graphical mode--still easy to use and just as comprehensive. The next few paragraphs tell exactly how to play the game, and there is another general file on football for those of you who aren't too familiar with the game. Have fun! Starting Out ~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you have an IBM computer which supports CGA or EGA, and you don't have Crunchterm yet, GET IT! It's easy to set up and run; just follow the instructions in its documentation. Create a team as soon as the game is set up. You don't want everyone to beat you to it and fill all the empty slots. You might want to log on as a visitor the first time you play just to look around, but be sure to run CLFB again so you can set up a team! Setting up a team may take a while, but it isn't hard at all. Be careful when you're drafting to select a team with a good mix of abilities. Don't just stock up on quarterbacks and receivers because you also need strong defensive and offensive lines. You are given four first round, six second round, fifteen third round, and fifteen fourth round draft picks. Each round the abilities of the available players get worse. Be sure to select carefully, because the only times when you will ever be able to draft again will be a few players at the beginning of each season to replace others who have retired. Playing the Game ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CLFB is divided into several menus, each covering a general area of the game. At times you will encounter abbreviations for different positions, as listed below. Offensive Abbreviations: Defensive Abbreviations: QB Quarterback DB Defensive Back RB Running Back S Safety WR Wide Receiver LB Linebacker TE Tight End NG Nose Guard OT Offensive Tackle DE Defensive End OG Offensive Guard DT Defensive Tackle C Center K Kicker (Refer to the general football information file for more information about these positions.) * Edit Setup. This menu allows you to plan your strategy for the next game. You may select from default offensive and defensive plays or personalize them yourself. You may also edit you roster and inspect the most recent plays of another team. Be careful when firing players to remember that they can not be rehired once they are gone, and you'll have to wait until the next season to draft replacements. * Sports Page. This menu contains several options concerning the current status of the league. You may view brief summaries of earlier games, the current rankings, outstanding players, other teams, and the current schedule. * Gambling Menu. (Registered versions only). You may place or cancel bets on the next weeks games. Odds are determined by the previous performance of teams. On WWIV BBSs, you may convert your money into gold, upload credit, and/or security level if the sysop allows it. * Trade Menu. (Registered versions only). Plan trades with other teams. You may either offer single players for other coaches to request or propose a trade yourself. Although you may request players that a team is not currently offering, you are more likely to make a successful trade if the players you request are already being offered. A player may be involved in only one deal at a time. * Help Menu. View various help files, or change your configuration. You may turn on or off Crunchterm support here. How the Crunch League Works ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The games for the current week in the Crunch League season are played at midnight every day they are scheduled. During the regular season, each team will play every other team in its division twice, once at home and once away unless the sysop has implemented the shortened season option. In this case, each team will play each other team in its division once, randomly either home or away. The outcome of each game is based on several factors such as: the plays used by each team, the abilities of players on each team, trends, and luck. Each play is run individually, and important ones are recorded in the game record. As soon as the regular season has ended, the playoffs begin. High ranking teams from each division play each other in a single elimination tournament for the league championship. If there is an odd number teams in the playoffs, some teams will be allowed to have a bye game. The final game of the season is the superbowl when the two league champions play one final game to determine the Crunch League champion team. Once the season is over, if your team has done especially badly, you may opt to have the sysop delete your team. The next time you log on after that, you will be able to draft a new team and start over again instead of just a few players (Be careful not to let anyone beat you to the empty space, however!). Make sure you also play an active role in the game, or the sysop may decide to delete you even if you don't ask. If you keep your team, you will be permitted to draft a few new players to replace any that are retiring or simply to improve the team. Using Crunchterm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The greatest addition to version 2.0 is support for Crunchterm. Using Crunchterm, a small terminal program, in conjunction with your regular term program, you may take advantage of the EGA and CGA graphics offered by CLFB. Your sysop should make a copy of Crunchterm available for you to download if you do not have a copy yet. It is available at Lankhmar BBS (703 360-4793) if you can't find it anywhere else. Instructions on how to use it and set it up are in its own documentation. Play Crunch League Football! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enjoy playing the Crunch League, and please encourage your sysop to register. If he decides to register, you will be able to use the trading and gambling options permitted only in the registered version. So don't miss out on these opportunities any longer! Have your sysop register soon if he hasn't already. And thanks for using this fine Crunchware product! Be on the lookout for other Crunchware/Crunchterm programs!
