AUTOVIRI NOTE: This program requires the use of PKUNZIP and SCAN to run. SETUP: Let's get right down to business first, we'll explain how to setup autoviri first and explain how it works later. First make an entry in your event.bat file if you have one. Autoviri needs specific command line arguments, so you will need to have an event.bat file to use autoviri. Enter in the form: AUTOVIRI [path1] [path2] EXAMPLE: AUTOVIRI A:\ C:\WWIV All pathnames must be valid pathnames, and be separated by a space. PATH1 - This is the drive or directory where you wish to have your zip files decompressed and scanned. Autoviri will erase all decompressed files in this directory when it's finished scanning them, so this directory must not contain any files. If there are files there, or this is an invalid pathname Autoviri will simply abort. EXAMPLE: A:\ (If you use a floppy drive be sure to insert a blank formatted disk in the drive) PATH2 - This is where your copy of CHAIN.TXT is. Autoviri uses some information from this file. It is usually in your main bbs directory. EXAMPLE: C:\WWIV (If you look here you will find a file called chain.txt) Now that you have entered the correct information in your event.bat file, copy AUTOVIRI.EXE and DIRS.TXT to your main bbs directory. DIRS.TXT is where you must enter the directories that you want AUTOVIRI.EXE to scan for zipped files. You must enter the full path name of any upload directory you add to your bbs if you want autoviri to search it. Don't worry about deleting directories from the list, autoviri will will delete any entry it finds that no longer exist. A copy of DIRS.TXT has already been provided as an example how to make entries in this file. Autoviri will scan up to 64 directories. As you can see you must include the full pathname. This file must reside in the same directory as AUTOVIRI.EXE. Also autoviri will only scan one file each time the program is run. If you want you can install it as a door also, and you can run it as many times as you want. I would suggest a security level of 255, so only you or your co-sysop can run it. You must have the directory where pkunzip & pkxarc named in your dos PATH in your autoexec.bat file. The directory where Scan resides must also be named in your path, so that autoviri may call them to unzip and scan the files as needed. The results of the scanning, wether or not the program contains a virus that Scan recognizes, will be saved in a file called scanned.txt. Autoviri will make a subdirectory from your gfiles directory called SCANNED. Then save scanned.txt in this directory. This way you can add it to your "online gfiles" and view the results of the scan without having to take your bbs offline. In case you scan a few files and forget which files have already been scanned Autoviri.001 will list files that have been previously scanned. This file is saved in the same directory as scanned.txt so you can add it to your "online gfiles" list also. Somthing similar to a program called bbsusage. If you added it as an event(.bat) and as a door, you can scan for viruses and view the results remotely!! But I would suggest a security level high enough so other users won't know it's there. Autovirii will perform some sorting of the list Autoviri.001. This sort will be more thorough if you have the MS-DOS Utility SORT.EXE in a directory accessable by the PATH. Anyways, this might seem a little bit much to digest, but I think you might just start to like this little program. It automizes scanning of your files as they are uploaded. If you like this program, have any suggestions for it's improvement Feel free to write and tell me about it.
