#$$ About this tutorial This tutorial file is... * a HELP.TXT file immediately available without creating it yourself. * an on-screen tutorial of basic ClipHelp color editing commands. * something to view in your ASCII processor to see how simple its basic structure is. * somewhere to pass on one or two tips which may prove handy. #$$ Starting the tutorial To ensure that complete sets of instructions are visible without needing to scroll the color editing panel I have had to cram things in a bit. Sorry. Please scroll down until the line "*Ä Important: ÄÄ" is at the top. #$$ ’’Coloring a message panel *Ä Important: ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ* To color this panel: ³ Be sure to back up your data regularly, ³ ³ preferrably daily! Chances are the day ³ 1 Tap and move the ³ you don't will be the day it goes down! ³ color cursor box to 63. *ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ* 2 Tap again. Tap <->> until the arrow is above the '*' then and <->> until the second '*' has been painted, then to save. 3 Tap four times to copy the line's attributes to the next line. #$$ ’’Adding emphasis by flashing *Ä Important: ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ* 1 Please color this ³ Be sure to back up your data regularly, ³ panel remembering ³ preferrably daily! Chances are the day ³ the technique used ³ you don't will be the day it goes down! ³ previously. *ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ* 2 Now scroll until "*Ä Important: ÄÄ" is once more at the top. Tap twice to pass through color selecting to moving, then <->> until reaching 'I'. Tap to paint and to turn on flashing then <->> until ':' is flashing, then to save. #$$ ’’Multiple colors in a line 1 Please color this *Ä Important: ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ* panel as before. ³ Be sure to back up your data regularly, ³ ³ preferrably daily! Chances are the day ³ 2 Put 'Important' at top ³ you don't will be the day it goes down! ³ again, tap and *ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ* select 59, again, move to '*', to paint and <->> twice to color border beginning, to toggle back to moving and <->> to the next 'Ä', and <->> until '*' painted, then to save. 3 See if you can work out how to do the other lines of the panel. #$$ ’’Let's see what that looks like You can now see the result of your labours as it would appear in your application's help screen by tapping and then using or to move from page to page. Note that you can tap to check final appearances at any time while you are working on your help file. #$$ ’’and so on... By now you're probably getting the hang of it. You will have noticed that the actions performed by the function keys you have been pressing are listed at the bottom of the screen. Please refer to the CLIPHELP.DOC file for a full explanation of their use. #$$ Finally, a few tips 1 When you work on your help file for real, don't forget to use the 'Rewrite Text' option after each occasion of using the 'Edit Colors' option to incorporate the results of your color editing in your HELP.TXT file prior to next using your ASCII processor. 2 Have a look at TUTORIAL.TXT file as included in the original suite of files to see how simple it is to lay out a basic HELP.TXT file. Note in particular the way topic titles are indicated. 3 If you wish to indent topic titles as has been done in this tutorial use a few CHR(255)s - spaces will be ignored.
