POSTNET BAR CODE The PostalBarCode font is designed to meet U.S. Postal regulations for the printing of the POSTNET BAR CODE. For complete specifications and printing locations on business mail, and other requirements, contact your local Post Office business office and request USPS Publication 25 dated Aug 1988. Mailing pieces with POSTNET BAR CODES also require a FIM (Facing Identification Mark) pattern. The publication mentioned above supplies the specifications. The TrueType version was tested with Microsoft Word for Windows 2.0 and printed at 10pt size. The ATM version was tested with Adobe Type Manager version 2.0 at the same point size. To construct a POSTNET BAR CODE the sequence starts and ends with the period character (46), this is mandatory. The 5 + 4 Zip code is entered as numeric characters 0 thru 9. Before the final period you, or a program, must compute a check digit and append it to the 5 + 4 for a ten digit sequence. The check digit is calculated by summing the value of the individual digits and subtracting the total from the next highest multiple of ten. For example, Zip code 20260-0100 (which just happens to be the Zip code of the Postmaster General) totals as follows, 2 + 2 = 4 + 6 = 10 + 1 = 11, 20 - 11 = 9 so the check digit is 9 and the sequence is (.2026001009.) To print, simply select the PostalBarCode font from your font list. (Remember print at 10 points) This font is copyrighted 1992 by Gerard E.
