Stupid Stuff: These stats were compiled by David J. Hillyer. I hereby place this Wayne Gretzky Hockey 1990-91 All-Star Teams disk in the Public Domain. You may feel free to give these teams to anyone. I didn't put a whole lot of time into these stats so they are no doubt not real accurate, but pretty close. Change them as you see fit. Background: The 1990-91 NHL All-Star game was played on Saturday, January 19, 1991 at Chicago Stadium. It was televised on NBC. The "All-Star Weekend" started on Friday with the 'Heroes of Hockey' exhibition game with former NHL greats taking on a team of former Chicago Blackhawks players. Among the participants were: NHL: honorary captain Jean Beliveau, Phil Esposito, Bob Clarke, Marcel Dionne, Frank Mahovlich, Rod Gilbert and Denis Potvin. Chicago: honorary captain Stan Mikita, Bobby Hull, Darcy Rota, Jim pappin and Pat Stapleton. Notes: I made these teams in the Hockey League Simulator. So there was a problem that I couldn't fix. The NHL, in their (in)finite wisdom, added a senior player to each team. This put the roster over WGH's limit, so Guy Lafleur has been left off the Wales team (he was with Quebec) and Bobby Smith was left off the Campbell (he was with Minnesota). They are only left off the WGH teams but are included in the HLS teams. I also never got to see Friday's skills competition or game so I don't know what the score was or anything (I didn't have SportsChannel, along with most of the USA). Several other things of interest: - Brett Hull couldn't play due to a sprained left ankle. He was replaced by Adam Oates, also from St. Louis. - Brian Skrudland (Montreal) broke his foot and couldn't play. He was replaced by Denis Savard, also from Montreal. - Chris Nilan (Boston) was out with an ankle injury too. He was replaced by Dave Christian (Boston). I've been passing the time by playing Gretzky Hockey. Hopefully the strike will be over before Wayne Gretzky Hockey 3 hits the stores some time this Fall or Christmas. Rumor has it that it will be 640 x 480 VGA!! If you have any suggestions for WGH3 send them to: Bethesda Softworks P.O. Box 7877 Gaithersburg, Maryland 20898 Also be on the lookout for a new hockey game from MicroLeague Sports that will have some kind of tie-in with USA Today. Enjoy the teams! -Dave
