            The JH3KEY Program

            To identify yourself as a registered JH3 user, you must have
            a JH3.KEY file in the same directory as your JH30.CFG file.
            The JH3.KEY file is automatically sent to those who register
            JH3.

            The JH2 documentation stated that once you registered JH2,
            you would never have to register again -- JH3KEY is my way
            of keeping this promise to registered JH2 users.  JH3KEY
            will create your personalized JH3.KEY file as long as you
            can furnish proof of JH2 registration.  This proof is
            contained in the JH2 Bonus Diskette that was sent to you
            when you registered (or if you registered the original JH
            and sent for the JH2 Bonus.)

            Over the past 2.5 years, the format of the JH2 Bonus
            Diskette has changed 3 times.  Early versions included only
            one copy of the Robbin Hancock program - the one
            corresponding to your mail reader - while later versions
            included both the DeLuxe and EZ-Reader versions of the
            program (identified with .EDE and .EZE extensions).

            Starting in late 1990, the New Thieves disk was included in
            the JH2 bonus package.  JH3KEY requires the ORIGINAL JH2
            Bonus Disk, which contains the ROBBIN??.EXE, ROBBIN??.EDE,
            or ROBBIN??.EZE files (?? in the ROBBIN?? file name happens
            to be your first and last initials), the JHCD.EXE and
            JHDIR.EXE files, and the JHMNT??.SCR customized JHMaint logo
            screen file.

            If you received a single bonus diskette, regardless of media
            size, that's the one.  If you received two 5¬" diskettes,
            make sure you use the "Bonus" disk; JH3KEY will not
            recognize the New Thieves diskette.

            If you are a registered JH2 user, you should have received
            an upgrade notice in the mail.  The JH3KEY program was
            written specifically for those of you who may have slipped
            through the cracks (i.e., you did not receive the upgrade
            notice, or you decided not to send for the JH3 Bonus Disk
            special offer).

            Running JH3KEY

            To start the program, type JH3KEY at the DOS prompt, and
            press <Enter>.

            JH3KEY will greet you with a generic message instructing you
            to insert your JH2 Bonus Diskette in your A: or B: drive,
            and to press the corresponding key.

            JH3KEY will scan the Bonus Disk and will extract registered
            user information from which it will create your personalized
            JH3.KEY file.  If the program cannot recognize your disk, it
            will tell you so before it returns to DOS.

            If all went well, there is a new JH3.KEY file in the default
            directory.  Make sure you copy this file to the directory
            pointed to by your JH3 environment variable; that's where
            all JH 3.0 programs look for it.

            Put your JH2 Bonus Disk in a safe place (in the event you
            need it again to recreate a .KEY file), and enjoy JH3.
            You're done.


            I don't *have* a JH2 Bonus Diskette

            Then you must be a JH 1.0 registered user, and you chose not
            to get the JH 2.0 Bonus Disk when the offer was mailed to
            you.  The only solution available to you is the JH3 upgrade,
            for $10.  See REGISTER.TXT for details.


            I can't find my JH2 Bonus Diskette

            The JH2 Bonus Diskette is the only item in your possession
            that clearly identifies you as a registered JH2 user.  If
            you cannot find the diskette, or if (Heaven Forbid!) you re-
            used it for other purposes, you must send for the JH3 Bonus
            Disk, which contains your personalized JH3.KEY file (as a
            registered JH2 user, you will receive a $10 (50%) discount
            towards the JH3 bonus disk).

            To receive the JH3 Bonus Disk, fill in and print the
            REGISTER.TXT file, or hand-write the information, and mail
            it in with your payment.


            JH3KEY will not recognize my JH2 Bonus Disk

            This may happen - your diskette may have been damaged for
            some reason or another.  Although I could offer to send you
            another JH2 bonus disk, I would charge you about the same
            for it as I would for the JH3 bonus, but you would not get
            any of the JH3 bonuses.  Your best option is to send for the
            JH3 bonus disk.  See REGISTER.TXT for information on the 50%
            preferred customer discount.
