SHIELDS1.TIL An Alternate Set of Tiles For Mahjongg 3.3 by Nels Anderson By Richard VandeVelde Compuserve # [72657,1224] This is one of three sets of tiles which can be used in Nels Anderson's Mahjongg 3.3 game. (I strongly urge you to register with him for that wonderful game if you have not done so already). All three sets are based loosely on medieval shields and heraldric devices. Those who are knowledgeable in the arcane art and lore of heraldry will note some variations from 'official' heraldric practice. But who cares? The tiles are arranged as follows: Tiles 1 - 34 Various coats of arms, many of them authentic representations of actual coats of arms. If they are not authentic, they are often variations on real ones. There is one which is 'close' to the coat of arms of Chaucer, e.g. (For the wild cards) 35 - 38 (seasons) 4 fairly accurate shields, all with red backgrounds which represent organizations with which I have spent several 'seasons' of my life: colleges and a fraternity. No prize if you can figure them out. 39 - 42 a set of 4 Lions rampant on differing backgrounds. August 12, 1990
