The nineteenth century novel GRAUSTARK by George
Barr McCutcheon, and its sequels BEVERLY OF GRAUSTARK and 
THE PRINCE OF GRAUSTARK, gave us the adjective "GRAUSTARKIAN".  In this tile set for NELS ANDERSON'S 
game MAHJONGG I have drawn on all three of the above for
the images on the tiles.  More old fashioned Derring-Do
and Romance with brave and virtuous heros and beautiful and equally virtuous heroines.  If you wish to read the novels,
they may be in your local library on some dusty back shelf - I would guess that they are now out of print.
