MahJongg Tile Set Description Tile Set Name: SIGFLAG1.TIL and SIGFLAG2.TIL Subject: Naval Signal Flags Created by: Stuart S. Cope Jr. Description: Since receiving my first version as a gift, I have become addicted to this game of Mahjongg. Having registered my copy and receiving version 3.3, I have used Nels Anderson's alternate tile sets with much pleasure. While using the Flags of the World, I was reminded of how colorful a Naval vessel looked when the signal flags were being flown, especially in port. Quite often, we would drape or hang some of these Signal Flags around the Hangar Deck of an Aircraft Carrier or an aircraft hangar ashore, to add color and a festive atmosphere to special functions or occasions. The use of World Flags for a tile set made me think of trying my hand at making another tile set, but this time using Navy Signal Flags. As I thought about making a tile set using the Signal Flags, I decided to include on the tile not only the Signal Flag and Alpha/Numeric character, but also the International Morse Code character equivalent. There are only five colors used in making these flags; red, white, blue, yellow and black. The various combinations not only make them colorful, but interesting. Also, since there are 26 letters in the alphabet and 10 numbers, it was fairly easy to substitute the Signal Flags directly into the tile pattern. 1. Tiles 1 through 26 are the Alphabet flags 2. Tiles 27 through 42 are the Number flags, with the number 9 being tiles 35 through 38 and the number 0 being tiles 39 though 42. I made two tile sets using Signal Flags as the basis, and am not sure which set I like better. SIGFLAG1.TIL was made using a grey background, but with different side colors to denote consonants, vowels, and numbers. SIGFLAG2.TIL was made using different background colors: 1. Grey for Consonants 2. Cyan for Vowels 3. Brown for Numbers As with any of the Mahjongg tile sets, Good Luck and have fun. S. Cope Millbrook, AL
