Here's how to get 625k Free at the dos prompt,using only MS-DOS ! First you need a 386 or better , MS-DOS 5.0 , Norton Utilities NDOS.com , and the current versions of EMM386.exe & Himem.sys . (They come with Windows 3.1 , and I believe they can be downloaded from any decent BBs , like this one). This is how I set up my C & T 386 sx with 6meg of extended memory Config.sys buffers=2 FILES=8 STACKS=0,0 lastdrive=d: fcbs=1 DEVICE=C:\sys\HIMEM.SYS dos=high,umb DEVICE=C:\sys\EMM386.EXE ram 2000 i=e000-efff i=b000-b7ff frame=e000 devicehigh=c:\sys\mouse.sys /y SHELL=C:\ndos.com /u /e:128 DEVICEhigh=C:\S\STACKER.COM C:\STACVOL.000 DEVICEHIGH=C:\sys\ansi.sys @Echo Off autoexec.bat @echo off lh c:\prnt\dmp /mx:24 /mxp c:\sys\umbfiles=44 SET PCPLUS=d:\PCP LH d:\pct\PC-CACHE.com /WRITE=ON/quiet/sizext=1700 PATH d:\PCT;C:\DOS;c:\ut;c:\sys;d:\acad;C:\S;d:\nu int13x c:\sys\flop /f c:\sys\speedram r:60 prOMPT MS-DOS ver.5.1$_$e[36m$t$_$e[33m$d$_$e[1;31m$P$e[34m$G$e[32m pcshell v And here are the results! This could turn most after market memory managers into Shelfware! What do you think ? Harry P. Balz
