MADNESS v1.01 -- (c) copyright 1992, by Viˆt-Trung Luu ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ This file contains all the stuff I forgot to put in the online help screens. First of all system requirements: -an IBM PC-compatible computer running MS-DOS (I don't know how much memory or what version of DOS) -a color-capable text adapter (CGA, EGA, VGA, etc.) -a keyboard Next, undocumented keys inside the game: U - move diagonally up and left I - move straight up O - move diagonally up and right J - move to the left L - move to the right M - move diagonally down and left , - move straight down . - move diagonally down and right R - clears then redraws entire screen (use this if any glitches appear on the screen) And undocumented keys for the HELP system: < - previous page > - next page Note that the main keyboard commands (regular letters, numbers, and punctuation) can be used either shifted or un- shifted. The main keyboard keys are provided as a conve- nience for laptop users who may not have a numeric keypad. You can reset the high score (or TOP SCORES) by erasing the file MADNESS.TOP. Madness will automatically generate a new file. The command line arguments are: /? or /H - view help on MADNESS command line /B - force MADNESS to use BIOS instead of going directly to the screen. Use this if your screen displays "snow" -- this is mainly a problem for CGA adapters on slow machines. As used in the command-line: MADNESS [/? | /H] [/B] CHANGES IN VERSION 1.01 Version 1.01 fixes a bug which didn't allow the high scores (top scores) file to be read from and written to pro- perly (the file size would increase, and it would only read the first copy of MADNESS.TOP -- that is, the one that was saved after it was first run. This version is also supplied as an .EXE file rather than a .COM file, mainly so I could use LZEXE91. Although PKLITE (I have version 1.05 although I could get version 1.10) makes slightly smaller files, I used LZEXE91 because it is freeware and my copy of PKLITE is not registered. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Well, I'm not going to say much about myself except to say that the majority of teenagers are older than me and that I've one numerous awards... ABOUT THE COMPILER MADNESS is compiled with Borland's Borland C++ v2.0. I used BCC (the command-line compiler) because its output is more compact (who knows why?). Otherwise, I used the IDE for preliminary development. EVERYTHING ELSE If you have any problems with MADNESS, or if you want to learn about other programs I make (in this case, send a SASE), write to: Viˆt-Trung Luu 112 St-Sim‚on Chicoutimi, QC Canada, G7H 3C3 Even though this is the third release of MADNESS (it is now version 1.00), bugs may still be present. If you find any bugs, please report them to me. Note that you can use the R key to redraw the entire screen. Other than that, there is nothing more. MADNESS is a game of strategy that is kind of cool... but it gets old af- ter a few minutes. ENJOY!!! *** MADNESS v1.01 - released 92/08/12, 15:15 - 3rd release
