Winter, 2006 The swift and unexpected attack of the "so-called" Eurasian Hegemony forces, following the cessation of food aid from North America has shattered the US med fleet. A few units centered on the aircraft carrier John C. Stannis made it through Gibraltar, with the help of some brilliant diversionary tactics by British forces, immediately before their own withdrawal. At this time, all UK forces have been pulled back to form a cordon about their own island and are calling themselves neutral in this most sudden war. It is unclear how far this assault will be carried, but all effort must be made to deny the Hegemony control of the North Atlantic. If they control the Atlantic they will surely threaten the North American continent with sea and air forces in an attempt to acquire the food they have been denied. The situation is expected to become more unstable through the winter, as stock-piled basic food for the general population will only last until early March at best (give or take 1 month depending on regional factors). Military and government sources in the UK estimate that supplies for Hegemony military units will last until mid April (from data gathered through their economic community dealings prior to the EC collapse in 2003). The cause of last summer's unimaginable insect infestation which resulted in catastrophic crop failures on the Eurasian continent has been confirmed as pollution related. Two entomologists from the Chevalier de Lamarck ecological research center in Pessac, Bordeaux, France have confirmed that increased ground level atmospheric carbon dioxide and ozone, coupled with a 24% increase in overall ultraviolet radiation levels created a chain reaction reproduction event in the cicada or locust family of insects. The infestation wiped out 43% of grain production and 24% of vegetable and other agriculture food products. Also, 41% of the grazing land was rendered useless, resulting in a 44% decrease in meat and dairy production. Additional damage has resulted from internal conflicts and the general panic which set in as winter approached. Internal redistribution efforts have been choked as of mid- December due to a number of pseudo-military low intensity regional disputes. The largest bottleneck has been passage through the Mediterranean Sea, where nearly 85% of food has either been stolen for sale on the black market or destroyed in some very fierce battles. Pirate activities from Italy and Greece accounted for 13 missing vessels and an estimated 3600 violent deaths before all shipping finally stopped. All areas other than Atlantic, Biscay and North Sea coastal areas have not had reliable food supplies for up to a month. Food from Canada and the United States began arriving in early November at a rate which would see most areas back to 75% of need levels for the entire winter. However, with distribution to interior areas cut off by internal disputes, and the sinking of 4 merchant food transports on the same day one week ago, the US and Canadian governments chose to stop sending food due to unacceptable losses. No one has claimed sinking the merchant vessels, which were all fully loaded and bound for French ports. It is suspected that Ukrainian controlled CIS vessels may have been attempting to stop the flow of food in protest to their inability to supply themselves. The MED fleet was attacked 35 hours ago from multiple directions in a well planned and executed operation. Almost complete surprise was gained, as regular operation duty procedures had been suspended while the MED fleet was attempting to police the Mediterranean supply routes. It was hoped that the food shipments could be restarted if pirating could be eliminated. Sea and air units from France, Spain, Italy, CIS and Greece attacked from close range and without warning. Only a chance intercept of coded messages by UK forces at Gibraltar allowed any of the US MED fleet to escape. The intercepted messages, which detailed part of the combined French-Spanish blockade of the Strait, were received by COMSURFMED 15 minutes after the attacks began (at which time losses were as high as 50%). In addition, the UK unit at Gibraltar sent false orders to the French-Spanish surface group, ordering them to intercept the remaining US vessels which had attacked Cartegena along the Spanish coast. In truth, the US vessels were 100 miles south of Cartegena, off the Algerian coast at Oran. A few had barely escaped the initial onslaught and lost the enemy vessels by 4 hours of 36 knot steaming straight south toward Bizerte, Tunisia. ***************************************************************** This scenario package for Harpoon NACV HDS2 enhanced battleset explores the possibility of a cross Atlantic war, between forces which had for many decades been allies. Unlike traditional NATO vs non-NATO northern hemisphere conflict scenarios, the quality of weapons advantage always held by NATO forces has been alleviated by splitting the NATO allies. In addition, this scenario also allows for more wide-open sea action, and the very interesting possibility of invading North America. You will notice that some leeway has been taken in outfitting the Eurasian Forces. But, keep in mind that this scenario takes place in the first decade of the next century. Package includes (so far): Operation CROSS ATLANTIC Operation BENCH PRESS More to come as time allows!
