Located on 450 acres in the Valley of the Sun against the backdrop of the Sonoran Mountains, this resort contains two eighteen hole courses. While trees are few and far between, the stadium course is dotted with sage, cactus, rocks, sand and other desert foliage. Mounds and sand traps help to define the holes. Any course without massive trees and dozens of lakes and rivers to heavily penalize the player is a challenge to do in JNSE. "Scottsdale" is very similar to a linkside course, with no trees to line the fairways. Most of us amateur architects would have not even tried to do this one. The course was originally done for the JNUG version. I have since redone it using some of the new features of "Signature" which required removing pieces of rough and cart path that had been built into the course to simulate hills since the new version makes the terrain features come more into play. Other courses I've also been involved with designing for the Signature version of Jack Nicklaus: The TPC at Southwind (Federal Express Open) The TPC at Avenel (Kemper Open) Forest Oaks C.C. (K-Mart Greater Greensboro Open) Kingsmill G.C. (Anheuser-Busch Golf Classic) And if you have a chance to get a hold of Cog Hill by Alan Pajari, go for it. I recently downloaded a copy and thought it played very close to the original. The course showed a lot of time well spent and was greatly appreciated.
