INSTALLING THE HP DESKJET SERIES V.3.0 PRINTER DRIVER FOR MICROSOFT(R) WINDOWS(TM) 3.0 AND 3.1 THROUGH THE CONTROL PANEL ===================================================== Follow these instructions if you are having difficulty installing the HP DeskJet Series v.3.0 Printer Driver for Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) 3.0 and 3.1 with the HP Printer Setup Program. If you have problems installing printer driver, go to the Printers dialog box. If your printer driver appears in the Installed Printers list box, select it, click Configure, Remove, and OK. Then begin installation again. If you still need help, call HP CPO Customer Support Center at (208) 323-2551. INSTALLING THE DRIVER AND ITS SUPPORT FILES ON YOUR HARD DISK ========================================================= 1. Start the Windows program and ensure that no memory resident programs are running. 2. Open the Main group window. 3. Open the Control Panel icon. 4. Open the Printers icon. 5. 3.1 users: Click the Add>> button. 3.0 users: Click the Add Printer button, then scroll through the List of Printers box until Unlisted Printer appears. 6. 3.1 users: Double click Install Unlisted or Updated Printer. 3.0 users: Double click Unlisted Printer. 7. Insert the HP DeskJet Series Printer Driver Installation Disk 1 into your computer's disk drive. 8. 3.1 users: Indicate the drive into which you inserted your disk. Click OK. 3.0 users: Double click your computer's disk drive in the Directories list box on the right. 9. 3.1 users: Select your printer model from the Add Unlisted or Updated Printer dialog box. Click OK. 3.0 users: Double click deskjetc.drv in the Driver Files list box on the left. 10. If you are using 5 1/4 in. disks, insert the HP DeskJet Series Printer Driver Installation Disk 2 when prompted and type the drive in which the disk was inserted, then click OK. 11. Click Close (3.1 users) or OK (3.0 users) to close the Printers dialog box. 12. IMPORTANT! Exit the Control Panel to ensure that the driver is installed properly. This will return you to the Main Group window. SELECTING PRINTER SETTINGS ========================== 1. Open the Main group window. 2. Open the Control Panel icon. 3. Open the Printers icon. 4. Click your printer driver in the Installed Printers list box. 5. Click the Connect (3.1 users) or the Configure (3.0 users) button. 6. Click LPT1 or COM1 in the Ports list box on the left to select the port to which you connected your printer. LPT ports are parallel ports. COM ports are serial ports. If no other printers are installed on your system, select LPT1. Click OK (3.1 users). 7. Click the Setup button. 8. Select your printer settings, as desired. Click the Help button for more information on printer settings. INSTALLING PRINTER FONTS ======================== 1. Open the Main group window. 2. Open the Control Panel icon. 3. Open the Printers icon. 4. Click your printer driver in the Installed Printers list box. 5. Click the Configure button (3.0 users). 6. Click the Setup button. 7. Click the Fonts button. 8. Click the Printer Fonts button. 9. If you are using 5 1/4 in. disks, insert the HP DeskJet Series Printer Driver Installation Disk 2 into your disk drive (if it isn't already in the drive). 10. Specify the directory in which to store your font configuration files. Use the default directory (C:\TD\TYPE), or type an alternate drive\directory and click OK. For first time installation, you must confirm creation of the new directory (C:\TD\TYPE). Click OK. 11. Click the Install Fonts button. 12. Specify the disk drive from which your fonts will be installed in the Install Fonts: Source Directory dialog box and click OK. 13. Specify the directory where your fonts will be stored. Use the default directory (C:\TD\TYPE), or type an alternate drive\directory and click OK. The printer fonts will appear in the Printer Fonts From: list box on the left. 14. Select the fonts you wish to install from the Printer Fonts From: list box on the left. Select all or some of the source fonts by pressing and holding the Ctrl key while clicking on the name of each font you wish to install. 15. Click the >>Copy>> button. For first time installation, this process may take several minutes. When this is complete, the list of fonts you just installed will appear in the Installed Printer Fonts list box on the right. 16. Click OK to close the Install Printer Fonts dialog box. To create screen fonts for the printer fonts you just installed, continue with Creating Screen Fonts, below. Or, click Cancel to exit the fonts dialog box and continue with Activating Your Printer in the next section. CREATING SCREEN FONTS ===================== Creating screen fonts is optional; you will be able to use the scalable printer fonts whether screen fonts exist or not. 1. Open the Main group window. 2. Open the Control Panel icon. 3. Open the Printers icon. 4. Click your printer driver in the Installed Printers list box. 5. Click the Configure button (3.0 users). 6. Click the Setup button. 7. Click the Fonts button. 8. Click the Screen Fonts button. 9. Select the printer fonts for which you wish to make screen fonts from the Installed Printer Font(s) list box on the left. You may select more than one printer font by pressing and holding the Ctrl key while clicking each the name of each printer font. 10. Click the >>Create>> button. The screen fonts will be created in the following standard point sizes: 8, 10, 12, 14, 18, and 24. You may add or delete sizes for a screen font by selecting the font from the Installed Screen Font(s) list box and clicking the Edit Sizes button. Click the Help button for more information on editing screen fonts. 11. Click OK to close the Create Screen Fonts dialog box. 12. Click Cancel to exit the Fonts dialog box. ACTIVATING YOUR PRINTER ======================= Before you may use your printer, you must activate it. 1. Click OK to close the printer setup dialog box. 2. 3.0 users: Click OK to close the Printers-Configure dialog box. 3. 3.0 users: Click Active in the Status box in the Printers dialog box. 4. Double click your printer driver to make it your default printer. 5. Click Close (3.1 users) or OK (3.0 users) to close the Printers dialog box. 6. Close the Control Panel, returning to the Main group window. 7. Remove the disk from your disk drive and store it in a safe place. Your printer driver is now installed and set up for use. Additional information on using the printer driver can be found by clicking the Help buttons in the printer setup dialog boxes.
