Susan Taylor or Mary Sturgeon (416) 539-0694 For Immediate Release Microsoft Announces the Upgrade Advisor Disk Over 250,000 disks to be sent to homes & businesses across Canada MISSISSAUGA, Ont. March 30, 1993 As part of its Upgrade Your World promotion, Microsoft Canada Inc. today announced the Microsoft Upgrade Advisor Disk, a disk which evaluates a user's PC and offers a checklist of new Microsoft products and other system upgrades. Microsoft will send out 250,000 units of this disk to homes and businesses across the country. "Microsoft is the first company to introduce an interactive disk such as this," said Jeff Dossett, group product manager at Microsoft Canada Inc. "The Upgrade Advisor Disk is an easy way for users to understand the capabilities of their hardware and maximize their hardware investment. "For example, if a user has hardware with a sound card and multimedia capabilities, the Upgrade Advisor Disk will recognize this and provide the user with a listing of all the latest multimedia products Microsoft has to offer." The Advisor Disk includes a Visio Sampler, a drag and drop drawing program, and TetraVex, a four sided brainteaser game, both free. As well, the disk contains a catalogue which includes product descriptions of Microsoft software. The Upgrade Your World promotion is Microsoft's largest and most comprehensive consumer promotion it has ever undertaken. The promotion is designed to make it easier for consumers to buy a number of its leading products through Microsoft Canada's reseller channel partners. Under this program, users who purchase a minimum of $250 worth of Microsoft software between April 1 and May 31, 1993 will be entitled to free software through a mail in coupon which can be redeemed for any one of nine select Microsoft products (maximum of 10 free products or $2500 retail value per customer address). Founded in 1975, Microsoft (NASDAQ "MSFT") is the worldwide leader in software for personal computers. The company offers a wide range of products and services for business and personal use, each designed with the mission of making it easier and more enjoyable for people to take advantage of the full power of personal computing everyday. --30-- Microsoft and MS-DOS are registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation.
