MAJOR BBS AND TELIX BACK RIP GRAPHICAL INTERFACE ------------------------------------------------ Galacticomm, Inc. announced on February 1 an alliance with deltaComm Development, and TeleGrafix Communications, Inc. to unite BBS technology and terminal software development toward an online graphics standard. deltaComm develops the popular Telix terminal communications program. TeleGrafix is developing the Remote Imaging Protocol (RIP) - RIPscrip, a graphics protocol designed specifically for BBS applications. "Our mutual goal is to greatly simplify the operation and use of bulletin board systems by the computing world, " comments Galacticomm Vice President Scott Brinker. "This means having a common graphics standard that is supported by both leading BBS and terminal program manufacturers. We've chosen the RIPscrip solution because of its elegance and portability. And we couldn't be prouder about working with the Telix development team." TeleGrafix CEO Jeff Reeder says, "RIPscrip - a Remote Imaging Protocol - is more efficient and flexible than the NAPLPS (North American Presentation Level Protocol Syntax) standard used by Prodigy. Since we have a lot of experience in the BBS world, we were really able to target the needs of BBS operators and users. Almost any BBS can implement RIPscrip support, and we're particularly pleased that The Major BBS and Telix are joining forces to support it as an integrated feature." "Telix development has always been driven by the needs of its users," says deltaComm President Jeff Woods. "Now, more than ever, we're hearing the need for a common graphical standard. By working with Galacticomm and TeleGrafix, we intend to lead the way to a dazzling future of online graphics and eventually multimedia. This is just the beginning. The alliance of BBS vendors and term program vendors has been long overdue. There are a number of ways we can work hand-in-hand with Galacticomm to provide more benefit to our mutual customers." A major new release of Telix is expected this summer at the ONE BBSCON. Over 800,000 people use Telix as their preferred terminal software. Galacticomm is expected to release Version 6.1 of The Major BBS sometime this spring, and Brinker did hint that integrated RIPscrip support would be included.
