Leased  line with the V42bis (Non-v32modems) after the  AT&L1  to

set  leased line mode, you need A:>2 people to make the  connection,

OR B:> a ring-down (voice) leased line.

     A:> One person types ATX1D (which tells the modem to 'dial'

without looking for a dial tone) in terminal mode, the person  on

the  other  end types ATA (which tells the modem to pick  up  the

line and answer).

     B:> With a ring-down line, the modem (or Phone) will ring on

the other end when one end is taken off-hook. So if the  modem is

set  with  ATS0=1 (autoanswer), then the person  originating  can

type  the  ATX1D  which  will put the  modem  off  hook  (and  in

originate mode) and the other end gets a RING and will answer.
