In the last few months, I had finals, and also got moved to Colorado Springs, CO. I decided to put unpacking on hold to get this out to everyone. And now, the news... 1. Message maintenance will now work properly on systems running less than 20 message areas. The scroll bar was not operational before. Thanks to Ethan Brofman for pointing this out. 2. GCONSOL handling improvements. - You may now edit the echoday field. Just press "E" and the cursor will appear over the highlighted line. - Speed has been increased many times. It will support up to 500 GCONSOL entries. Any remaining records will be accessed at the same speed as before. 3. One little addition for people using 12 hour time: Since you don't get to see the seconds field, I added a special little bonus down there in the time area. Watch it for a second or two and you'll see what I did. 4. Configuration is now handled inside of SYSUTIL. If you are starting it for the first time, you will be placed into that part of the program to ready it for use. After then, if you want to change your settings, just use the (C)onfiguration option at the main menu. There are two screens - use PgUp and PgDn to switch between them. 5. Fixed a bug concerning the origin editor if you didn't already have NAME= configured in SCHEDULE.BBS. Thanks to Ethan Brofman for helping me uncover this. 6. You may join and unjoin users from a message base by using the "Message Maintenance" option under Local Maintenance. Please note that toggling the ban and del bits does take a little while to run, even on a 386. I will try to speed that up as much as possible for the release. 7. SYSUTIL.DOC has been re-done. I think this format looks a lot neater than the previous one. It also provides lots of information about things like the new configuration menu. 8. SU_USER.DOC has been created. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Beta #39 04/11/93 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. More log handling improvements. You can now select a default path to zip files to in "store log files". See SYSUTIL.CFG for more information. The line you need to add to utilize this feature is "LP=". Thanks to Lane Smith for suggesting this. 2. Netmail control messages from SYSUTIL will now be private. This does not affect the posting of SUSEED.MSG when joining an echo. 3. GL requests can now be sent from the "Netmail Maintenance" menu. Simply tell SYSUTIL who you wish to get it from, and it will send the message for you. 4. The ECHONODE.BBS file will no longer be checked when adding echoes from the local net. The reasoning behind this is that echoes not in the ECHOLIST.BBS (that's why they're in the NETECHO.BBS) won't be in the ECHONODE.BBS either. This speeds up access to the "Source:" prompt greatly when adding local echoes. 5. SYSUTIL will now prevent you from adding echoes that are already listed in your main routing file and and file included within that file. Thanks to Jeremy Mattern for the suggestion. 6. You are now given the option of deleting log files after they are zipped. If you do not use the default filename for zipping your logs, and are using the delete option, please make sure you provide a pathname that PKZIP can handle. Otherwise, your logs will not go into the zip file, and they will be deleted. Thanks to Lane Smith for the suggestion. 7. SU_USER - If you did a search for some text, and then started up an access level search without ending the text search first, it would die when the access level matched. It was also quite slow since TWO search mechanisms were going at the same time. 8. The GT= field may now be set to 18 in anticipation of the upcoming release. 9. The external programs menu has been cleaned up. Certain configurations would result in a garbled display and some things not getting highlighted. 10. There is now an option to look at the GCONSOL.CTL file under "Netmail Maintenance". Please be aware that this is the first shot at the GCONSOL handling, so it will be quite slow. The cursor keys will work to scroll through it, so feel free to have a look. I'm planning on adding editing capabilities later in the beta test. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Beta #38 03/07/93 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. The TM= field would only work if it was uppercase TM=Y. 2. The GM and GQ functions now support GT 15 format messages (.MSG). You must have your GT= field set properly for this to work. Thanks to Lee Woodrum for finding this one. 3. Certain configuration errors will now give more meaningful error messages rather than error and line numbers. 4. SU_USER now presents you with a screen asking if you would like to exit. Everything except "n", "N", and ESC will exit to DOS. Thanks to Lane Smith for suggesting this. 5. Various things in "store logs" were not working correctly. It was mainly centered around the "*" tagging option. Thanks to Lane Smith for suggesting this. 6. "Store logs" is now much more powerful. In addition to the fixes mentioned above, several things have been added. The first is a list of files you want SYSUTIL to tag for you whenever you enter the store logs option. To use this feature, add one line to SYSUTIL.CFG with LG=filename.log for each filename you want to have it do automatically. If you wanted it to automatically tag 4 files, you would need four LG= lines in the SYSUTIL.CFG file, one for each. The second is a default name for the destination ZIP file. It will default to LGmmddyy.ZIP. For example, one done today (3-5-93) would be LG030593.ZIP. You can hit ENTER to use the default, or "n" to select your own. Thanks to Lane Smith for suggesting these. 7. SU_USER can now send messages to users that will appear before the GTBULLET.BBS/CBS. This will only work if you are running a version of GT that can support this, and if you are running SYSUTIL. SU_USER needs to find SYSUTIL.CFG in the LAN path if you have one. If you do not have a LAN path, it will look in your GTPATH. It uses the SYSUTIL.CFG to find out what program to use for ASCII editing. 8. If the time was 12:00 PM (noon), and you were using the 12 hour time format in SYSUTIL, it would just print "12:xx" with no AM or PM after it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Beta #37 01/25/93 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. The "External Programs" section looked odd when there were no programs numbered higher than 9. It mainly involved the little borders above and below the program titles. 2. Having the included files in ROUTING.BBS ($filename) would not work if the $ was not at column 1, or if there was a space between the $ and the actual filename. Thanks to Mike Schmieg for finding this. 3. SYSUTIL will now optionally look in the NETECHO.BBS in addition to the echolist whenever it needs to find an echo. See the included SYSUTIL.CFG for more information. The line to add/change in SYSUTIL.CFG is NE=. Thanks to Mike Schmieg for suggesting this. 4. There is a new option off the "Local Maintenance" menu: "Current Activity". This will look in the PID_FILE.BBS in your LAN path and show you what is going on with your system. If you are running DESQview or a LAN, you can see who's logged on, and what they're doing. In the case of some doors with advanced logging features (BGQWK for example), you can even see what part of the program they're in. 5. My SU_USER source code got crosslinked on January 15th. I restored it from tape, and re-programmed the changes made since that backup. Please let me know if anything did not get back in. The changes were quite small. -------------------------------------- --- File truncated to save space. --- --------------------------------------
