This READ ME file is included. In short, be honest. If you use it and find it of value, please pay for it. The files enclosed include: ZIPCODEB.TTF - TrueType font used to create POSTNET bar codes for ZIP codes ZIPDIGIT.EXE - calculates the necessary check digit for a given ZIP code ENVELOPE.WRI - sample Microsoft Write file that uses the POSTNET font FIM_A.TIF - Facing Identification Marks as TIFF files FIM_B.TIF FIM_C.TIF Begin by installing the ZipCodeBarcodeTT font. From the Program Manager, choose Control Panels and then Fonts. Add the ZipCodeBarcodeTT font. It will then appear in the font dialog box of any Windows application. ZIPDIGIT.EXE, ENVELOPE.WRI and the three FIM TIF's can be placed anywhere on your hard disk. ZIPDIGIT is a command line, DOS utility. To create a POSTNET bar code for a given ZIP code you must first calculate the check digit using ZIPDIGIT. Then format a string of the form, s123456789Cs, in the font at 16 points. The "s" is used for the start and stop bar, and the "C" is the check digit. To calculate the check digit manually or from within a database, add up all of the digits in a ZIP code and then determine what single digit number must be added to the total to make the next multiple of 10. For example, our ZIP code is 98116-0745. The total of all of the digits is 41, therefore our check is 9 because 41 + 9 = 50. There are three popular locations for POSTNET bar code symbols on mail pieces. The easiest and most common is above the name line in the address block. An alternative is below the city/state/ZIP code line in the address block. These two positions are used when doing regular mail. If you are doing the artwork for a Business Reply Mail envelope or postcard, you can put the POSTNET symbol in the lower right corner of the envelope in the clear zone. Consult your local post office about details. ZIPBAR.ZIP is a subset of POSTools, our POSTNET bar code printing package. POSTools contains a Type 1 version of the ZipCodeBarcode font for use with Adobe Type Manager (ATM), ZIPCHECK (a Windows utility) to calculate the check digit, a Word for Windows file that includes a macro to create the bar code in one step and the FIM bars as EPS files. POSTools is regularly $59 but mention ZIPBAR.ZIP and get it for only $49. ZIPBAR.ZIP v1.1 differs from v1.0 in that: - the font has been renamed to avoid conflict with other font names - the font has been tweaked for better output on low resolution printers - ZIPDIGIT has been rewritten & streamlined - FIM_D.TIF has been dropped because FIM D symbols are used any more If you have questions about this software or any other bar code printing needs, please feel free to contact us.
