X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.1 PL7] Date: Wed, 16 Dec 1992 07:33:40 GMT Lines: 30 Just played SoR2 from 10:30 till 2:30. Great game. Worthy sequel. Adam is not in this verision, but the characters replacing him are definitely good ones. Max is a HUGE wrestler type. Slow as hell, but packs a mean punch. Skates is Adam's little brother. Fast little bugger. Lots of fun to run around with him. The changes to the game are mostly minor in the opposition, but the character of the game changes quite seriously because there are no longer any special attacks like there were in the first game. Now each character has SF2 type special moves. Different for each one. Definitely makes playing more interesting and varied. T The graphics are very good looking. The characters are larger in relation to the screen now, making it a lot easier on the eyes. The music and sound effects are even better if possible. Overall, I'm really happy with it, and now, I'm gonna go back to playing it. later days! --dt -- Dennis Thomas '** Nerd For Hire, Budding Unix Weenie, and Mythical Figure. dethomas@unix.amherst.edu roach@aux1.amherst.edu Article 45353 of rec.games.video: Path: uwm.edu!rpi!usc!chaph.usc.edu!sal-sun29.usc.edu!not-for-mail From: tehyang@sal-sun29.usc.edu (Teh Kao Yang) Newsgroups: rec.games.video Subject: Re: STREETS OF RAGE 2 Date: 18 Dec 1992 17:34:07 -0800 Organization: University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA Lines: 34 Message-ID: <1gtu6fINN2gj@sal-sun29.usc.edu> References: NNTP-Posting-Host: sal-sun29.usc.edu In article lennad@rpi.edu writes: > > Hi all, > Just a quick questions on this cart, which all who own seem > to be pleased with. I'm very glad you asked this question, I'm more than happy to answer it... When playing I noticed that so far the max. # of characters on the screen is around 8. There could be more, but definitely at least 8. This includes 2 players and 6 enemies. I think there might not be a limit to the # of onscreen characters, like SOR1, because if you keep moving forward enemies keep coming out. However when there are 6 or more characters on the screen, I've noticed some slight flickering. The flickering gets worse when there are large boss enemies on the screen or if you are using Max the big wrestler. There is also some flicker when there are too many objects(stuff you can smash) cluttered around the playfield. However the flicker is barely noticeable with 6 characters on screen. But when there are 8 or more or if large sized characters are present, sometimes an entire character or two will disappear for an instant due to flickering. However I'm trying to rag on the game here: I think just being able to put 8 big characters on screen simultaneously with minimal flicker is amazing enough. After all Final Fight had a max of 4 characters, so what is there to complain about? Also if there are 6 enemies beating the heck out of you, I don't think you'll notice the flicker anyway. Also I have noticed absolutely NO SLOWDOWN in the game, even with the screen filled to the brim with enemies. Slight flicker yes, but no slowdown at all. -Teh Kao Article 45365 of rec.games.video: Path: uwm.edu!spool.mu.edu!uunet!digex.com!ramsays From: ramsays@access.digex.com (Scott Ramsay) Newsgroups: rec.games.video Subject: Review: Streets of Rage 2 Date: 19 Dec 1992 04:20:17 GMT Organization: Express Access Online Communications, Greenbelt, MD USA Lines: 41 Distribution: world Message-ID: <1gu7u1INN4q7@mirror.digex.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: access.digex.com I just got Streets of Rage 2 today. 16 megs wow! If you like the first one, you love the second. You can pick from four different players. Each player has differnt types of attacks. There are a lot more moves compared to the first game. The special-cop-that-kills-all-enemy is gone but each player has a special power. These moves are really strong but take a small amount of your life bar. When your life bar is too low, you won't be able to use them. (Each player has two different special attacks) The computer players are smarter and each enemy has a 'boss' type health meter. The current enemy your fighting bar is displayed. There are some guys that take longer to kill, I guess you call them mini-bosses. But there are sometimes more than one on a level. There are more pick up weapons. Sword, bombs, pipe, etc. You can throw any weapon like the knife in the first SoR. The graphics are great. The detail is better than the first. The background effects are better. The drawings are better. For example, When doing a jump kick, the knife your holding does not dissapear. It is still shown in the hand. And little details like when Blaze gets slapped in the face. The sound is great. (Am I saying great too much) There is one guy that laughs at you every time he hits you with a knife. The music is really good. The first-part of level one (yes, there are several parts on each level) has a nice House type music. The beginning of level two has a great Techno style trak. Its really heavy-techno. It sounds great connected to my stereo. (loud) They use the stereo very well. And it worth connecting the sound through the stereo jack. Well overall, This is a must buy cart! I think the game is a little bit harder than the first. I like the fact that they give only two continues. (I like challenges) ---- Scott Ramsay ramsays@access.digex.com Article 45680 of rec.games.video: Newsgroups: rec.games.video Path: uwm.edu!zaphod.mps.ohio-state.edu!swrinde!gatech!destroyer!ais.org!mfrose From: mfrose@ais.org (Martin Rose) Subject: [GEN] Streets of Rage 2 Message-ID: Organization: UMCC Distribution: na Date: Wed, 23 Dec 1992 17:54:53 GMT Lines: 50 HEY D00DZ I JUST FINISHED STRETS OF RAGE 2 ON EAZY LEVEL!!!!!!IT ONLY TOOK ME FIVE DAYZ SO THIS GAME IZ 2 EAZY AND IM RETURNING IT TODAY SO I CAN GET THE TURTLES GMAE TURTLES ARE WAY K00L D00DZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... ahem. >:-) (End Sarcastic Soapbox Mode) Okay, now you know my opinion of people who play on Easy level, finish the game, and declare it "too easy". But I *did* finish SoR2 last night, on Normal level. I guess they let Mr. X keep his machine gun from the last time I beat the snot out of him... If anyone else is looking for a good way to blast through this game, I have only one thing to say to you: AXEL. Axel Stone's new DP (what the heck is he trying to say? It sounds like "Random Paw", but I can do it fairly consistently :) ) is an excellent move that can get you through those particularly pesky enemies, especially Bald Bull and the Ultimate Warrior. Eddie "Skate" Hunter is definitely the most fun to play. He can scamper around the screen to easily keep one step ahead of the goons, and his attack-from-behind maneuver (The "My Momma's A WHAT?" Attack :) ) is downright hilarious. His throws are also much more fun to do. Max Thunder, as promised, is definitely the strongest attacker. His Atomic Drop, if you can grab a goon from behind, is a guaranteed kill against most Common Trash. Max is also devastating if enemies crowd around him, as his swings tend to encompass quite a bit of real estate in his immediate vicinity. His backward kick can KO some poor sap standing in front of him, and I feel sorry for the idiot who's right behind him when he swings that big ol' piece of pipe! :) Blaze Fielding...well, aside from the obvious physical things B) , there's really nothing in particular to recommend her. She has the Hadouken, and the slam-throw, but that's it. Attempting to use the Kikousho usually just gets you hurt. The music in this game just cries out to be played LOUD through your stereo. All things considered, if EB wants this game back, they're going to have to PRY it from my COLD DEAD FINGERS. B) B) B) -- Streets of Rage II - Again, WOW!!! Intense game. I really liked the first SOR, and this game makes me wonder just why... This game is leaps and bounds better. The gameplay, graphics, special moves, characters, and everything else is great. You can choose from 4 characters, and can play 1 or 2 players. You can also go into "Duel Mode", which you go into character vs. character mode, ala Street Fighter II. While not quite up to SFII level in this mode, it is a very good 1-on-1 fighting game. And this is just a submode of the real game. The sounds are very well done, thought I get annoyed with some of them after awhile, and the music is great...
