COURSE: Duneland Greens & Yacht Club DESIGN: Art Steiger, aka Graf DATE: May 31, 1993 VERSION: 1.1 DUNELAND GREENS AND YACHT CLUB MEMO TO TODAY'S GOLFERS: Dear Member, The management thanks you for your continued patronage, and we sincerely hope that your rounds on this course are as enjoyable an experience for you as operating the club is for us. As some of you already know, today is the date of our annual DG&YC Regatta. We hope that all the attendant activity will not interfere with your enjoyment of the game. Please give the TV cameramen as free a rein as possible (we do not want to repeat the ugly incident of last year, when one former member came to blows with a technician he perceived as overly noisy--he probably would have 4 putted the hole anyway). Thank you in advance for your support and understanding! The Management The present course is an attempt to capture the flavor of the terrain on the southern shores of Lake Michigan in northwest Indiana. The country is gently rolling, with occasional dense growths of oaks, cottonwoods, and various conifers. A large area has been turned into the Dunes National Lakeshore Park; and while there are numerous tracts of unspoiled land, these are rapidly being developed as the population increases. This is probably good for the economy of the region, but the effect such development has upon the local geography is another matter. I've tried in Duneland to create as realistic a rendering as possible of the general contours of the land, and to add a grab bag of trees that are indigenous to the area. I purposely omitted cart paths, as I wanted this to be a "walking" course. I had originally intended to have water play a major role in this course, but with Lake Michigan so prominent a feature (in the background), this just didn't work too well. I reserved the use of water for just one hole, the 10th. Finally, I hope those of you who are from--or have visited--this part of the country, will find my efforts reasonably faithful to the original. My sincere thanks go to the following people, whose own efforts made the design of the present course so much easier: To George Rodriguez III for the two pine trees, three birch trees, and two of the ground foliage objects from his GR3OBJ01.ZIP and GR3OBJ02.ZIP files; to Mark Willett for the bench/ball washer object from his ISLES.ZIP; and to Brian Silvernail for a ground foliage object from his SCORPSE.ZIP. The base background comes from the commercial JNSE Sherwood course. I have revised and reworked it extensively. Many of the remaining objects are likewise from the Sherwood course. I've reworked them to make them appear as realistic, and as detailed, as possible. I hope the final result bears this out. The remaining objects are original. Please feel free to communicate any opinions, comments, or suggestions you may have regarding this, or my previous courses, WILDWOOD, PINEHILL, or TROIKA--all available on the Accolade BBS: Art Steiger 8328 Colorado Merrillville, IN 46410 NOTE: This course is offered FREE to the JNSE community for their personal use via the Accolade BBS. If you subsequently upload it to other BBS's, please keep ALL files intact and unaltered!
