From "The World Atlas of Golf", edited by Mark Rowlinson, 1991...... "Karen Country Club, Nairobi, Kenya.... Karen Country Club is situated on 216 acres of land twelve miles west of Nariobi. The course was laid out in 1931 on farmland formerly owned by Baroness Karen von Blixen, after whom the district takes its name and where she wrote her classic novel, OUT OF AFRICA. " Total yardage- 6,893. Par-72. This is my second JNSE course and is my first "real" course. I noticed while looking at my course collection one day, that I had no "Africa" courses. There is a North African course, "Royal Rabat", out there, but there didn't seem to be any courses in the heart of the continent. I recalled seeing some courses in my "World Atlas of Golf" book and so I took it out and thumbed through. I found two: this one and Chapman G.C. in Harare, Zimbabwe. Chapman had alot of water, though and I was tired of playing water courses and I also would like to go to Kenya some day. Thus I decided to do Karen Country Club. Once again, this is a "real" course and I reproduced the course layout as accurately as possible. I even made up three original objects/animals : A lion, a springbok, and a zebra. I think the lion and springbok are quite good. The zebra is awful, though, and if you don't like them wandering on YOUR course, you can always go into the designer and drive them off!! I borrowed the background from Dan Raftery's Oakmont C.C. Other objects were borrowed from various other courses and I wish to thank the designers for making them so I could use them here! One last note...This course was made for you to enjoy. I do not pretend to be one of the designers who takes many months making their courses. I did this course rather quickly (that is my nature) and so please excuse my logo for not being an 8 hour job. Also, if you find any quirks, which I haven't, don't be angry. Use the designer and change things if you want. Use the course for whatever reason you want as well. You are free to do with it as you please. I hope you enjoy KAREN COUNTRY CLUB!
