These tracks were recorded for their limited edition demo cassette, Accelerated Emotions, in January and are now available commercially on this 12" vinyl pressing. ADSR are an Ottawa duo who are ready to take the world by storm with their "electronic body music," which inherits its form from various elements of techno, including house, trance, ambient and acid. "Obsession" is a dreamy track that engages your mind into imagining life's wonderful attributes and it's possibility of non-existance. "Pure Energy" is the dancier track that combines a strong acid bassline with floating "Julee Cruise" vocal samples. "Suboceana" is the second incarnation of this track that has been given more punch than the original with an acid bassline, an increase in tempo (130 -> 136 bpm) and better overall production. The overall production quality of this whole disc is equal or superior to most other releases from many other artist. This is just a start for Floorshaker Productions, ADSR's production company, which will see many more releases to come. Look for the Accellerated Emotions CD, of new material recorded this summer, to be released on September 1 through Cargo. - PI "This Is Just A Dance" / "Straight Out The Gate" BUBBATUNES Mo Wax UK 12" **** A well and nice group of tracks. The MO WAX label hasn't slept and this ain't starting it. The 12" contains two tracks that vary in speed, attitude and sound. Some goofs might call this "Acid Jazz" - naw. Whatever title given, this has hip-hop and vibe-oriented breaks and grooves to it and is original enuff not to have the same cheesy sample worked throughout. Repition is not the key, but progression make great tracks. - A-T "Together" DANNY CAMPBELL & SASHA FFRR UK 12" ***** This is the kind of soulful house that FFRR was putting out a few years ago with the likes of CARLETON, SATOSHI TOMIIE, 1 WORLD and BLACKSMITH. A brilliant track that has three vocal mixes and two dubs. The Mount Rushmore New York underground house remixes are the preferred, for vocal and dub. Get this! - PI Dance Your Socks Off EP DANCE ONLY PRODUCTIONS (D.O.P.) Guerilla UK 12" ****-1/2 / ****-1/2 This is the latest UK release from WILLIAM ORBIT's GUERILLA RECORDS label. We get four good tracks to choose from. "Here I Go" is progressive house that uses a tribal bassline. "Non Stop" appears to have popped out of 1977's disco. "Trance Europe Express" is one of the better trance tracks out there. This is a label to watch for. - PI The two Kevins serving up four new samples of their groovy progressive sound, which continue to show us just why Guerilla was the #1 UK house label of 1992 and is still going strong. - TN "10 x 10" 808 STATE ZTT UK 12" *** This is the third single from their current album, Gorgeous. There are three mixes of "10 x 10," along with the track "La Luz (Chunky Funky Mix)." The Trance Mix is very typical sounding of todays commercial trance mixes. The Black Eye Mix is a slightly harder edged techno version of "10 x 10" with less of the repetitive samples of the title being spoken. The third mix is the Radio Mix. "La Luz" is a more typical 808 State track from the likes of those found on the first album, Ninety. Interesting, but not a necessity. - PI "Drums of the Lock" / "The Lighthouse" KABALLA Big Time Belgium 12" ****-1/2 Two mixes of each track, "The Lighthouse (Frank de Wulf Mix)" being my personal favourite. Upbeat and happy. The original mix of "Drums of the Lock" features military snare rolls, while the Brazil Mix contains loads of traditional Brazilian drumming and whistles. Definite pleaser. - TN "Tanto Bushi" / "Sawauchi Jinku" KANAZAWA AKIKO DIGITAL Underground US 12" *** The Japanese doing techno, why not? These two trance tracks hail from Japan - UK and Japanese contact numbers are given on the label. The interest in these tracks lies in the Japanese vocals. The music structure is solid. Each track comes in two similar mixes. I quite like this and it allows me to give my listeners something different from everyone else in the market. - PI Orbital ORBITAL Internal UK CD ****˝ This is the second full length release by the HARTNOLL brothers. This album contains some bits from their last full length (the track "Moebius" has mutated into the strange opening piece "Time Becomes"), as well as a remix of their single "Halcyon." ORBITAL are one of the most consistantly brilliant techno artists around, and this album has proven that they are able to easily alter their sound in order to stay "progressive." Tracks like "Lush 3-2" and "Remind" have now pushed this duo into the realm of acid trance. This album grows on me with each listening experience. Very hypnotic and trippy. - KI The Summer Fruits EP RIPE Dance 2 Recordings UK 12" **** This Ep features three progressive house tracks and a soulful disco track. "Passion" is available in vocal or dub versions. "Flowtation" is a trancy instrumental track. The key track here is "Luv Trap." Strong male vocals enhancing a basic bassline with a piano groove. The vocals could be compared with Chicago's house classics, but why bother. Uptempo, yet very soulful. This is a must have track for house jocks which can be placed in late-night sets. - PI "F- Dat" SAGAT Maxi US 12" ***˝ A probable anthem for anybody who has participated in society where the 6:00 news says not to go. I'm tellin ya that almost anybody can agree with what SAGAT preaches. The track which is really a house track gets nuff props on the downbeat (-6) for it's attitude 'n stylin. "F- Dat" is produced and mixed by JUMP "CHICO" SLAMM out of Baltimore and has the energy of the former TUNNEL (club in N.Y.C. - there's nothin like it in Toronto) or a MAW, TODD TERRY or 2 WITHOUT HATS mix. A PG-13 version is available for the weak and junior hearted, but the RAW mix comes across direct. Hip-house done rican style. - A-T "Lost Illusions" SHAZZ A Bout de Souffle EP LAURENT GARNIER "Aurora Borealis" AURORA BOREALIS Tolérance EP DEEPSIDE FNAC French 12"s ***** (all) Strong recommendation: buy anything and everything on this label! Beautiful beats and crisp production. Sweet atmospherics and perfect PH levels. Pumping and soft in all the right places, sometimes at the same time. By far the best label of 1993. - TN Pure Energy Various Artists SPG/Denon Canadian CD ***-1/2 This compilation contains some of those hard to find hits that SPG is known to release (in their Hardest Hits series of hard to find classic eighties alternative tracks). Features of this CD are the inclusion of LOVE & LAUGHTER's 1990 single "I Surrender (Club Mix with Vocals)," FRANKIE KNUCKLES' "Workout (1992 Vocal Mix)," which I didn't know existed outside of the version on the 1991 album Beyond The Mix, and KYM SIMS' 1991 single "Too Blind To See It (Hurley's House Mix)." The more current tracks are commercial singles remixed in the house stylee. ROBIN S' "Show Me Love (Stone Bridge Club Mix)," FELIX FEATURING JOMANDA's "Don't You Want Me (Hooj Mix)," ROBERT OWENS' classic "I'll Be Your Friend (7" Radio Mix)," INNER CITY's "Pennies From Heaven (Kevin's Tunnel Mix)," SIMPLY MAJESTIC's "DJs Put This In The Mix a," BLACK SHEEP's "Strobelite Honey (Yes We Did Mix)," KON KAN's "Sinful Wishes a (Butchers At Work Dance Remix)," TECHNOTRONIC's (from Revlon commercial) "Move This," POBI's (from Montreal) cover of "Send Me An Angel a (Extended Mix)," and ADEVA's "Don't Let It Show On Your face (Full Length Perfecto Mix)." For the alternative house dj, the Frankie Knuckles, Inner City, Adeva and Robert Owens tracks are the ones for you. The other tracks are must haves for the typical club dj who has to play a certain amount of pop to keep the crowds. A good compilation that is worth it for the harder to find tracks. - PI ---------------------------------------------------------- Charts ====== Deepness 20 - Todd Nickolas 1.
