Statement by the Press Secretary

     We welcome the Senate Labor Committee's decision to 
reschedule Surgeon General-designate Joycelyn Elders confirmation 
hearing in order to give her an opportunity to provide thorough 
answers to any outstanding questions.  

     President Clinton is 100 percent committed to Mrs. Elder's 
nomination and looks forward to her timely confirmation.
