)15 TROUBLE SHOOTING )13 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It is our sincerist hope that you will have little need for this Help File. But in case you do... here it is! This file has also been reproduced as a standard text file named ' TSHOOT.TXT ' in the MENU directory just in case you are unable to run the MAIN MENU program for some reason. In testing this program, we tried awfully hard to get it to screw up but it just wouldn't cooperate! The program itself is free of defects and its error trapping routines took care of any "User Induced Irregularities" that it encountered. Throughout all the testing, the 3 biggest causes of problems were related to: )01 1. Neccessary files accidently deleted by the user. )15 2. Menu Files written by the user that contained errors, were )15 incorrectly formated or exceeded the set limits of width & )15 length. )04 3. Attempts by the user to eliminate the Registration )04 reminders. (Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!!) )15 Potential Problems & Responses: )04 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ )15 PROBLEM: One of my programs won't run when I access it from the Menu. CAUSE: 1. MAIN MENU can't find the appropreate Loader Batch File for that program. 2. The Loader Batch File itself contains some kind of error. 3. The program you are trying to run has some kind of problem. )14 CURE: 1. Make sure that the Loader Batch File for your program )14 exists and is in the right directory. Highlight the )14 program name on the Menu with the cursor highlight bar )14 and press (F3) for the System Editor. Check that the )14 file is correct and use the SAVE AS... option of the )14 to ensure that the file is saved to the LBF sub- )14 directory (ie... C:\MENU\LBF\[filename] ) )14 2. Recheck the Loader Batch File for any typos or other )14 mistakes. Make you you have entered the correct path to )14 your program and the correct start up file name. )14 3. Try to load the program directly from DOS. If it won't )14 run, it may give you an error message explaining why )14 such as an incorrect memory configuration, etc... It )14 is difficult to spot these error messages when using )14 MAIN MENU because of how quickly it runs your programs )14 and returns back to the Menu. )14 If the program runs correctly from DOS, try running it )14 directly from the Loader Batch File you created for it. )14 All of these files are in the LBF sub-directory and )14 you can obtain the name of appropreate file when you )14 check it in the (F3) System Editor. )14 At this point you will most likely find that your program )14 will not run from the batch file and you should recheck )14 it again... and/or refer to the program's documentation )14 for further assistance. )15 PROBLEM: When I access a certain function or option, nothing seems )15 to happen or I keep being returned to the (1st) Main Menu. CAUSE: MAIN MENU can not access a file associated with the action or function. MAIN MENU's error trapping routines are de- signed to do one of several things when an error occurs. They will try to execute your command a few more times then just give up and ignore your command ...OR... they will automatically reset certain system parameters and default back to the (1st) Main Menu ...OR... in severe and unre- coverable situations, they will inform you of the problem and exit out to DOS. )14 CURE: If you cannot identify a specific missing file and restore )14 it, then reinstall the entire MAIN MENU program. The install )14 program will NOT erase or overwrite your existing Menu and )14 Loader Batch files. )15 PROBLEM: One or more of my Menu files is partially hidden under the )15 Option Windows ... OR ... is not fully disappearing when I )15 go to another Menu ...OR ... some other screen/graphic )15 weirdness is happening. CAUSE: Assuming you have a functional VGA adapter/card, the only possible cause for these kinds of problems would be that your Menu(s) have exceeded the imposed size limit. )14 CURE: Recheck the offending Menu File with the (F3) System )14 editor and make sure it does not exceed 35 characters in )14 width or is more than a total of 17 lines in length. )08 * Check for trailing blank spaces at the end of lines and )08 extra blank lines at the bottom of the file. )15 PROBLEM: Those darn Registration Reminders keep popping up and I )15 can't get my favorite Logo to display automatically when )15 I enter MAIN MENU. CAUSE: You are using an Unregistered/Evaluation copy of the program. )14 CURE: Complete the included Registration Form and mail in your )14 Check or Money Order for $25. This is the only known )14 solution to the problem! )14 [End Of File]
