Product Overview: Ami Pro is a Microsoft Windows 3.x based word processing system. As of version 3.0, operation of Ami Pro over the LANtastic Network Operating System is directly supported. Test Equipment Configuration: The following machines were used for Ami Pro 3.0 testing. All machines used Artisoft AE-3 NICs. Testing was completed using LANtastic NOS v4.1. The LANtastic peer to peer server is designated by (S). DOS Share was loaded on the Ami Pro Server in all tests. o CompuAdd 433: 486DX/33, DOS 5.0 (S) (Main Ami Pro Server) o CompuAdd 325: 386SX/25, DOS 5.0, Windows 3.1 o Packard Bell 16x: 386SX/16, DOS 4.01, Windows 3.1 Installing Ami Pro v3.0: Installation is achieved via Ami Pro INSTALL facility initiated by invoking the RUN command within Windows. Choose the "Install Ami Pro on Server" , "Complete Ami Pro Installation" and "Windows" option icons during the installation. After Ami Pro has been installed on the server, install the node software on each designated workstation using the following steps: Net Login \\ Net Use \\\ Start Windows on the workstation. Invoke the RUN command and enter in the command box: \\Node\Node The Node program will install the necessary changes to the Windows .INI files and create any necessary workstation directories. Compatibility Notes; Because of the fixed requirement that all Ami Pro documents have the extension of .SAM, documents cannot be passed via LANtastic mail services using the DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) function of LANtastic for Windows. The extension given to a mailed DDE document under LANtastic is ._SP which Ami Pro cannot be coerced into recognizing (Artisoft tracking number T01292). Security: If two or more users are accessing the same document simultaneously, both may review the document, but only one may update it. Any other user updating the document will receive a "Document Locked" error message. Printing: Printing documents to network printers is fully supported by Ami Pro 3.0.
