Mitsumi LU0005S M04 under OS/2 v 2.1 ........ as of 6/15/93 Initial examination of v 2.1 indicates no support for CD-ROMS of IDE persuasion. Pending a commercial solution, here's a work-around. The following configuration will support ISO-9660 and Audio from the Mitsumi drive under OS/2 v2.1, ID 56210771, CSD level XR 02010. The Beta 5 Noller driver LU0005S.ADD (contained in BBS file OS2_LU0.ZIP) is used in conjunction with the the version 2.1 DASD and SCSI drivers and two files from version 2.0 to achieve access to data files and audio. Retain the following files from OS/2 v 2.0 XR 06055 (service pack installed): FILENAME DATE SIZE ------------------------------ CDFS.IFS 10-16-92 36708 CDROM.SYS 03-30-92 21556 Following v 2.1 installation, add these files to the C:\OS2 directory. In the config.sys file, make the following entries: ifs=c:\os2\cdfs.ifs /q ;group with IFS entries buffers=30 ;max tested so far is 30 basedev=os2dasd.dmd ; } basedev=os2scsi.dmd ; } must preceed device statements basedev=lu005s.add /p:300 ; } device=c:\os2\mdos\vcdrom.sys ;follows basedevs device=c:\os2\cdrom.sys /q /i /n:4 ;follows basedevs I put my Stacker statements at the start of config.sys so that the CD-ROM drive becomes the last lettered drive. Put PLAY.EXE in a convenient location and migrate it to the desktop. You will have two icons available. The first is in the DRIVES box. It will appear as a CD icon if the drive contains an ISO-9660 data CD at boot. It will appear as a hard drive icon if the drive contains an audio disk at boot; however, if you change disks, the harddrive icon is fully functional. This icon accesses an ISO-9660 disk. ICON, TREE and DETAIL views are all available. There seems to be adequate hard drive buffering of the Mitsumi drive. All read-only commands seem to work well. (Lotus Magellan is proving handy as a viewer for data disks.) The second Noller provided icon is the PLAY icon for audio CD's. Noller's control panel handles track selection, audio volume and stereo balance. Notes: The Noller driver and PLAY.EXE are internal to a packed file OS2DRVR which is inside OS_LU0.ZIP. Once you unzip the BBS package, place OS2DRVR in a work directory and from an OS2 prompt, execute: UNPACK OS2DRVR. This will produce the necessary Noller files. Noller reports they will have commercial product available for a very reasonable price. Meanwhile, this will work. Paul Hine 72730,2067 San Diego OS/2 User Group
