"Norwegian Wood"-By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Sequenced by Peter Batte', Los Angeles,CA Compuser 70721,3170 May 16, 1993 ******************************************************************************* This sequence was made on CakeWalk Ver. 4 with a Roland D-10 set to mimmick the GS Midi Standard Timbers (this Sysex patch dump is available in the Midiforum on Compuserve as GMD20.ZIP), and a Yamaha DX27. Both .WRK and .MID versions are included. The limitations of the D-10 in terms of 32 available partials caused some sound cut-outs when playing this sequence with all tracks playing, so I set Channel 7 (vocal parts) to play on the DX-27 (piccolo). I have patterned the sequence after the track on the "Rubber Soul" ablum, with one additional half verse at the end. I have never played this sequence on a true GS module, so I hope it is pleasing on such a device. I have listed the instruments and patches used, so that this sequence can be adapted to other software. Regarding the instruments, I selected the harpsicord sound in place of the main guitar riff because I haven't heard a guitar patch which conveys that "smokey" mood of the original recording. The alternate HonkyTonk piano on that track was chosen for contrast in the middle sections. The track entitled "Indian Texture" is set for a Bassoon, but any "Sho"-like patch (with a humming low-end) will probably work. Regarding the Sitar patch, I have varied the Volume (Control 7) settings during the track to emphasize the low-end at times, and to subdue the brashness of the high-end at other times. A really clean Sitar patch will help here. Lastly, for those of you who play guitar and sing, if you turn off (or reduce the volume of) the main rythym track(harpsicord and ht piano) along with the vocal parts, this sequence can be used as back-up accompaniement to a performance. ENJOY!!
